Sean Evans is stepping off YouTube and into the kind of tentpole spotlight Netflix loves.
“Hot Ones: Extra Heat” will premiere on the streamer July 13. landing right after Netflix’s live stream of the Home Run Derby. the Major League Baseball All-Star competition. For the first episode. the cast of the new comedy series “The Hawk”—starring Will Ferrell. Fortune Feimster. and Jimmy Tatro—will take on the wings of death.
Netflix is reshaping the familiar challenge format by taking it from Evans’ studio and placing it into big moments tied to the streamer. Those moments are meant to connect “Hot Ones” to series launches and live sporting events—keeping the core idea intact while changing the setting.
Evans framed the move as more than a platform switch. “As a student of the late-night genre. I’m obsessed with the art of the interview and believe that these conversations warrant a level of scale and spectacle that sometimes can’t be contained by a studio. ” he said. “It’s exciting to partner with Netflix to continue to break new ground with the format. while keeping the core of what fans love about Hot Ones firmly intact.”.
The new run will keep the ingredients that made the format a staple. “Extra Heat” will feature 30-minute conversations with Netflix talent, using the signature 10-wing challenge and researched conversations. Because the episodes will be happening on-location. Evans says they may include special guest appearances that “spice up” the traditional format.

This isn’t the first time streaming platforms have gotten involved with the franchise. Peacock currently licenses hundreds of episodes from the “Hot Ones” flagship series from Season 3 to Season 23. With “Hot Ones: Extra Heat,” Netflix becomes another streaming home for the YouTube series.
Even with the Netflix expansion, Evans isn’t stepping away from the original rhythm. He still releases weekly episodes of “Hot Ones” on the First We Feast YouTube channel.
