Hostin condemns Trump’s UFC slur reaction at 250th

On Monday’s “The View,” co-host Sunny Hostin criticized President Donald Trump for smirking rather than addressing derogatory remarks UFC heavyweight Josh Hokit made about former first lady Michelle Obama during the White House’s UFC Freedom 250 event on Sunda
The image was brief, but the reaction afterward wasn’t. During the White House’s UFC Freedom 250 event on Sunday evening. UFC heavyweight Josh Hokit won a fight on the White House lawn and turned the moment toward former first lady Michelle Obama—telling UFC commentator Joe Rogan. “Michelle Obama is a man!. Am I right, America?”.
For Sunny Hostin, that line landed with a clear message: don’t shrug it off.
On Monday’s episode of “The View. ” Hostin began by saying she wanted to address what she called a “derogatory slur” made about Obama because “it’s important to address.” She pressed that the significance wasn’t just the insult itself. but the history behind it. Hostin argued that the roots of the language are “in slavery. ” and that Black women have long been “slurred and made to feel that they were unattractive. ” pressured into being seen as “masculine. ” and treated as if they lacked the “femininity that a white woman would have.”.
Hostin said the moment at the White House mattered because she believed President Donald Trump responded with a smirk instead of confronting the remarks. She also called out the crowd for laughing when Hokit’s comments were made. “That is beneath the dignity of the office of the president of the United States. and it’s beneath the dignity of the American people. ” Hostin added as the audience clapped in response.
The event was billed around celebration and commemoration at once. UFC Freedom 250 marked the 250th anniversary of the United States while also coinciding with Trump’s 80th birthday.
Hostin’s co-host, Ana Navarro, sharpened the political critique from a different angle. Navarro said she “didn’t watch one second of that UFC fight” because. in her view. it “does not celebrate America’s 250th anniversary. That does not signify America’s best values.” She then returned to Trump. arguing he’s “so obsessed with the Obamas. ” and claimed the former first couple “live rent-free” in the president’s head.
Navarro also told viewers she plans to mark America’s 250th birthday by voting against Republicans in the 2026 midterms, adding that she believes Republicans have “putting no accountability on this administration.”
The White House, however, did not meet the remarks directly.
Although neither Trump nor Rogan has publicly denounced Hokit’s comments about Obama. UFC head Dana White did respond—at least in private—to the allegation. White told Time in a text message. “I understand that the Obama’s are public figures but I’m completely against saying nasty and false things about people’s families.” White added. “Everyone knows my position on free speech but I hate that kind of nonsense.”.
White House spokesperson Steven Cheung, asked about the Obama insult, reportedly dodged the question and instead praised Hokit’s win, a detail shared Monday by Jake Tapper on X.
As the controversy swirled around what the White House chose to amplify—and what it chose not to confront—the tension remained stark: a celebration framed in national history and a public insult aimed at a former first lady. followed by laughter. a television rebuke. and a leadership response that stayed evasive.

a smirk is worse than what he said apparently.
wait so the UFC guy said Michelle Obama is a man at a White House event?? and everyone laughed?? that’s just wild. i’m not even sure why Trump was there if it’s just gonna be insults.
i saw a clip where Trump looked like he didn’t even hear it but now they’re saying he smirked. also can we just call it what it is, disrespect. sunny hostin talking about slavery roots like yeah okay but i feel like everyone wants to make it a whole history lesson instead of just condemning the one comment.
this whole UFC Freedom 250 thing sounds like a promo stunt, not some real anniversary celebration. i thought UFC at the White House would be like flags and burgers not “michelle obama is a man”?? and Joe Rogan was there too so of course it turns into a joke circle. people act shocked but crowds laugh at heckling all the time. also doesn’t 250th = Trump birthday too? seems like they’re mashing everything together and then blaming the reaction.
