Dorchester Heights makes history books for its role in the 1775 Siege of Boston, but what has become known as Fort Hill in what was then the independent town of Roxbury was a player, too. In its more recent history, Fort Hill has become a neighborhood drawing interest.
This attached single-family — sometimes called a twin home — has a covered front porch protecting two matching doors with entry to different units.
Both properties are on the market, with the 1,712-square-foot home at 51 Norfolk St. listed for $699,900.
On the right, is the entrance to 49 Norfolk St. Upon entering, the foyer is 74 square feet and shares space with a stairwell to the second floor. The common space of this home is arrayed on the first floor in three successive rooms: the living room, the dining area, and kitchen.

A door on the right side of the foyer opens into the 220-square-foot living room. It evokes an earlier time in one of Boston’s oldest neighborhoods with a central light fixture that resembles a candelabra. There is a nonfunctioning fireplace with a mantle extant, crown molding, and a three-pane bay window. The hardwood flooring is original to the home.

The dining room follows, and is slightly larger at 221 square feet. There are two large double-hung windows with natural-toned staining on the walls and a drum-shaped pendant light in the center of the room. The walls are painted a butter yellow, and the floor is carpeted.

A French door opens to the 172-square-foot kitchen with maple cabinets in a variation of Shaker design. There is space in the center for a two-person dining table underneath a central light fixture and recessed lighting. There is also a skylight. The flooring is ceramic tile, and the countertops are quartz. Appliances are stainless steel, includinf the gas stove. In a corner is a second stairwell to the upper floors.

The 175-square-foot primary bedroom is at the front of house on the second floor and has three double-hung windows on its three exterior walls. The window trim and doors are white, and the walls are painted red with painted crown molding. There is a ceiling light fixture and wall sconces. Signaling its spot as the primary bedroom is the 56-square-foot walk-in closet. There’s also a 66-square-foot office next to the bedroom.

The second bedroom is 155 square feet, has two double-hung windows, a central light fixture, and hardwood flooring. The window trim is white, and the walls and crown molding are painted a gentle shade of olive.
The shared bathroom is 54 square feet. The mirror trim, faucets, and shower head are gold tone. The bath walls and shower backsplash are cloaked in cream tile with a vine and flower accent line.
The third floor qualifies as a quiet space, should one be looking for it. It’s the spot for the third bedroom — among the largest rooms in the house at 417 square feet. The ceiling lines mirror the slope of the roofline, the flooring is original to the home, and the walls are painted white.

The last full bathroom is on the third floor too, and it is fully updated with black and white hexagon mosaic tile flooring, a single vanity underneath a light fixture with three globes, and marble-like ceramic tile wainscoting. The shower is nested behind rolling plates of glass with steel framing and has two shower heads and a marble-like backsplash. There is a window in the shower.
There is a private deck off the back.

The home has central air conditioning and forced air gas heat. Bonuses include rooftop solar panels to help reduce utility costs, two off-street parking spaces, and an unfinished basement for storage.

650k for 3 beds in Roxbury?? wild.
So it’s like one house but two doors? I don’t get it lol. If it shares the stairs then is it basically an apartment situation?
Fort Hill sounds cool but $649,900 for 1688 sq ft is like… why is Boston so obsessed with the same 1900 build. Also “twin home” makes it sound bigger than it is. Taxes estimate too, so that’s probably gonna be way higher in real life right?
I saw “Siege of Boston” mentioned and thought this was about something historical like a fort or whatever, not just a listing. Then it’s two matching doors?? next you’re telling me it’s totally private and not shared utilities. Anyway $7,408 taxes and public water/sewer, sounds like they’re selling the location more than the house. Someone in the comments gonna say it’s a steal but it’s still 1900 construction.
