Charlie stays behind. Now Netflix has answered the biggest part of that uncertainty: there won’t be a fourth season.
Netflix revealed that Heartstopper is not getting a season 4. announcing in April 2025 that Charlie and Nick’s story will end with a movie rather than another TV run. The news has landed as a twist. especially for viewers who were still hoping the momentum from earlier seasons would carry the show into more episodes.
The third season did come with a downturn in viewership compared with the first two seasons. and the show’s performance was described as decreasing. Still. Heartstopper has remained a major hit with Gen-Z and millennial audiences. helping push series leads Kit Connor and Joe Locke further into the spotlight.
Before the movie announcement, creator Alice Oseman had left the door open — at least publicly. In February 2025. Oseman shared at a book festival panel that she was “working very hard behind the scenes to get us a renewal for Heartstopper.” She added that the effort was “still ongoing. [and] we don’t have a final answer yet. but there are so many people behind the scenes who are working really hard to make it happen.”.
That plan has now shifted from renewal to conclusion.
Heartstopper Forever, announced in April 2025, will be the end of the Heartstopper story, with Joe and Kit executive producing. Oseman said in a statement that she was “completely overjoyed that we will get to tell the end of the Heartstopper story. ” and she also thanked “everyone who has worked hard to make this possible” while addressing “the incredible fans of Heartstopper for your patience and passion.” She added: “I cannot wait to bring this story to a magical conclusion.”.
The movie is expected to give Charlie and Nick’s love story a “proper ending.” For viewers who’ve followed every twist of that relationship, it’s the difference between wondering what comes next and finally getting to see how it ends.
The timing is also beginning to take shape. Fans can watch all seasons of Heartstopper on Netflix. The movie — slated to begin filming in the summer of 2025 — should be available to stream on the platform as well once a release date is determined.
The cast will include Joe and Kit as the leads, with William Gao, Yasmin Finney, Tobie Donovan, Corinna Brown, and Kizzy Edgell rounding out the main ensemble.
