Heartbreak for NFL star as he tears his Achilles… exactly a year on from suffering the same injury on his other leg

Denver Broncos star Matt Henningsen has suffered a second torn Achilles inside 12 months in devastating scenes at practice on Friday. 

The defensive lineman had to be carted off the field after suffering the injury during individual drills and it was later confirmed to be a torn Achilles tendon.

The 27-year-old was emotional after the sickening injury and had his head in his hands as he was carted back to the facility.

But to compound matters for Henningsen, Friday marked exactly one year since he ruptured his other Achilles.

That occurred during a joint practice with the San Francisco 49ers and ultimately cost him the entirety of last season.

Broncos coach Sean Payton, who didn’t oversee practice on Friday because he’s in Ohio inducting Drew Brees into the Hall of Fame, had been full of praise for Henningsen’s rehab work and performances in the offseason.

He played every game in his first two seasons before spending 2024 on the practice squad

The Broncos selected Henningsen out of Wisconsin in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. 

He played every game in his first two seasons before spending the whole of the 2024 season on the team’s practice squad.

Henningsen is not the only injury concern for the Broncos coming out of Friday’s practice.

Wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. pulled up after running a route and was seen grabbing at his upper left leg. 

He threw his helmet on the turf and was seen speaking with a trainer before walking into the facility.
