HBCU student urges creators to stand out for Streamer University

Clark Atlanta University student My’ren Makayla says her selection for Kai Cenat’s Streamer University came after an application video that showed her personality—and she’s now pushing aspiring creators to do the same as the event prepares to return this summe

When Streamer University returns this summer, the story behind one selection is already resonating with creators who feel nervous about being seen.

Clark Atlanta University student My’ren Makayla was selected to be part of the popular event hosted by Kai Cenat last year. She says she earned her spot after an application video that showcased her personality. From there. she was accepted into Streamer University and given the chance to interact with Kai Cenat. India Love. and other prominent creators.

Now Makayla is looking back on the experience—and using it to push aspiring creators to go all-in on their own individuality. In a recent YouTube video about her time at Streamer University, her message is direct: stand out.

“You need to stand out, y’all,” Makayla said. “You see other people doing this. you need to be like. ‘Oh. how can I be better?’ Like. you need to stand out…You can’t be scared to put yourself out there. If I wouldn’t have made that video because I was too scared about what other people would think. I would not be in a position that I was before and that I am in now.”.

She also described how watching other applicants’ video pitches changed the way she approached her own submission. Seeing what others were doing made her realize she had to step up.

“I was like, ‘Yeah, this is the only way that’s going to get me there.’ Because you see what these people are doing, like these trailers that people are making. I got to be like them. My stuff got to be fire.”

As Sinet has announced he is accepting applications for the second annual event, Makayla’s advice expands beyond performance—it’s also about preparation and certainty while pursuing the opportunity. She urged applicants to “stay ready, stay confident, and be intentional.”

In her closing guidance, she brought faith into the center of the process. “Make sure you keep God in the center of everything because without Him, it’s not going to go according to your plan…”

She then underlined a final boundary for viewers and would-be applicants: not every opportunity is meant for everyone. “Make sure that Stream University is even for you. You probably want that and it’s not for you. That’s not what God has for you.”

For now, the timing is what gives her message extra weight. Streamer University is set to return this summer. and Makayla—who went from an application video to direct interaction with Kai Cenat. India Love. and other prominent creators—has made her path feel reachable. as long as the pitch doesn’t hide the person behind it.

  1. I mean, if you gotta make a video to “stand out” that’s true for everything now. But I feel like it’s kinda rigged for extroverts or whatever. Also why is she acting like God is the hiring process…

  2. Wait so Clark Atlanta students get scholarships or something or is it just a creator meet-up? Cuz I thought “Streamer University” was like an actual class.

  3. Applications opening again?? lol I saw a clip and thought she was talking about Stream “University” like streaming schools for gamers. If you’re scared to post then just don’t, but people are gonna hype it anyway. Also “stay ready stay confident” sounds like motivational poster not news.
