Harry Potter reunion producer Mohammed Adnan heads to Netflix

Mohammed Adnan, listed as a development producer on HBO Max’s “Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts,” says he’s leaving Story Film Limited to join Netflix as a manager of documentary series in the U.S.

For a franchise that’s already returned to the spotlight once, the behind-the-scenes churn is the kind people feel less in headlines and more in industry timelines.

Mohammed Adnan—listed as the development producer for HBO Max’s “Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts,” the reunion special that premiered years after the release of the “Harry Potter” and “Fantastic Beasts” films—has now announced a major career jump to Netflix.

The move lands after a period of streaming uncertainty around Warner Bros. Discovery. In 2025, Warner Bros. Discovery was almost acquired by Netflix, a near-deal that included rights stretching beyond DC franchises to the Wizarding World. The closeness of the arrangement was so pronounced that Netflix published key art featuring Daniel Radcliffe’s Harry alongside Millie Bobby Brown’s “Stranger Things” character. Eleven. That deal ultimately went the other way. Paramount is set to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery soon, but Netflix still appears determined to keep a foot in the Wizarding World’s orbit.

Adnan’s personal announcement is more straightforward. On his LinkedIn page. he said he’s joining Netflix as a manager of documentary series in the U.S. leaving Story Film Limited. He shared excitement about working alongside “some of the world’s most talented storytellers” and talked up what’s ahead in the role.

Story Film Limited’s founders, Peter Beard and David Nath, responded to the departure with praise. Beard and Nath commented that “Adnan is a truly talented creative and lovely person – we have been proud to have him as part of the team at Story. We know he will go on to further success at Netflix and we wish him all the very best in this next exciting chapter.”.

Beard also chimed in directly on LinkedIn, congratulating Adnan on the new position with a playful note. He wrote, “Huge congratulations Adnan. You’re the best (I’m not just saying that because I want commissions, you actually are). I’m sad to see you go but excited to see the amazing projects you’ll green light.”.

Adnan’s jump also arrives as Netflix continues building out its nonfiction slate. One of its recent documentaries, “Michael Jackson: The Verdict,” premiered on June 3, 2026. The series looks at Michael Jackson’s 2005 trial. when he was accused of sexually abusing a minor at his Neverland ranch—an accusation that ended in a not guilty verdict from the jury. The documentary includes interviews with people involved in the case, including jurors, eyewitnesses, and journalists.

Alongside that, Netflix offers other documentaries including “Eat the Rich: The GameStop Saga” and “Unknown Number: The High School Catfish,” plus mockumentaries like “Cunk on Earth” and “Death To 2020.”

Back on the HBO Max side, “Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts” remains available to stream on HBO Max. Adnan’s next chapter is already in motion—now at Netflix, in a role focused on U.S. documentary series.
