Harry Kane leaves Ella Langley gig early for curfew

England captain Harry Kane cut short his time at Ella Langley’s Kansas City concert because Thomas Tuchel’s curfew meant the group had to be back in time, finishing the night short of the final three songs.

Harry Kane was meant to be soaking up a slice of country at Ella Langley’s show in Kansas City. Instead, the night was shaped by a more familiar authority: Thomas Tuchel’s curfew.

Kane attended the Ella Langley gig at the Cable Dahmer Arena near Kansas City as part of England’s preparation for their second World Cup match. He was joined by defender Dan Burn and training goalkeeper Jason Steele, with the England captain hoping for more music than he ultimately got.

Kane is a big country fan. and he had been looking forward to Langley in particular after missing out on seeing her in Florida earlier this month. This time, he even got the chance to meet the 27-year-old in person on Friday night. Langley was playing in West Palm Beach when the squad were there. and Kane’s group couldn’t make it back for the event without running into the curfew.

Burn described the atmosphere around the band’s preparations and the strict timing that came with it. He revealed: “I know Harry is a big fan. We’ve got a record player in the hotel and he did a captain’s pick with a lot of his country music. Ella was playing in West Palm Beach when we were there. but we wouldn’t have got back for the curfew. so I’m glad that we got another opportunity.”.

Burn added that Kane and Steele were able to meet Ella before the gig, with Burn turning up later. The visit was a highlight, but it came with a catch. “It was great. but we missed the last three songs because we had to be back for curfew. which I was a bit gutted about – those were her three best!” he said.

For Burn, the night carried its own sense of comic commitment. “I was the only person who was suited and booted with a cowboy hat and jeans and all that. Luckily, there’s no photos kicking about! I went and got kitted out. I thought, if you’re going to do it, do it properly,” he said.

He made it clear the squad still kept the football mindset front and centre. “She is an amazing country artist. It was nice that we got to do those things and then focus back on the football. But I wouldn’t call it a “night out”, we’ll stop that!”

Kane also marked the evening publicly, posting a photo with Langley on social media. The caption read: “Great to meet you Ella. Thank you for having us – amazing show, keep smashing it.”

England now turn back to matches quickly. They face Ghana in Boston on Tuesday, coming into the contest after their opening group game on Wednesday, when they beat Croatia 4-2.
