Seahawks star Devon Witherspoon’s $132 million contract extension
On Saturday, Aug. 15, 2026, Witherspoon and the Seahawks came to terms on a four-year, $132 million contract extension. $101 million is guaranteed.
With the yearly average of $33 million, he becomes the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history. It is well deserved, as Witherspoon had seven passes defended and one interception in 2025.
He has been a constant in the Seahawks’ defense, which helped lead the team to the Super Bowl in 2025. They shut down NFL MVP runner-up Drake Maye and the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 60 earlier in the year.
In the Super Bowl, Witherspoon had four tackles and a sack. He defended a pass as well. Throughout the postseason, he had 17 total tackles (13 solo, four assists), one sack, and four passes defended.
The Seahawks will open their season on Wednesday, Sep. 9, against the Patriots. The NFL season is starting with a Super Bowl rematch.
Witherspoon was selected with the fifth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Illinois. During his collegiate career, he was named Consensus All-American and First-team All-Big Ten in 2022.
Since being drafted by the Seahawks, Witherspoon has made the Pro Bowl in all three years of his career. He was also named Second-team All-Pro in 2025, the year the Seahawks won the Super Bowl.
