American Idol winner Hannah Harper shared a Saturday Instagram house tour from Willow Springs, Missouri—bringing viewers into the couch where she wrote an original song, the rooms her kids filled, and the homecoming that felt “never sweeter” after months away
When American Idol winner Hannah Harper opened her Instagram video with, “Hello, everybody.. I’m home in my house, Willow Springs, [Missouri],” it didn’t feel like a polished celebrity moment.. It felt like someone walking you through the exact place where life has been happening—messy toys. familiar couches. and all.
In a Saturday. May 16 clip. Harper stood beside a wood table and pointed to the spot where she remembered her very first Zoom audition with the producers of American Idol.. “From this spot right here. singing this song. I actually wrote this song right here. on this couch. ” she said. moving into the living room.
“Right here on this couch, I wrote that song during a very hard season of my life,” Harper explained, stepping around the toys her children had left near the seating.
The tour kept moving—past the living room into a bedroom Harper said she hasn’t slept in for two months while she was on American Idol. She then headed to her closet, full of clothes she didn’t “remember” she owned, before turning the camera toward the kitchen.
“Over here is the kitchen that I haven’t cooked in in like six months,” she said.. “Not because I’ve been at Idol.. Because my husband has been Mr.. Mom and he’s been amazing.. So I haven’t had to cook anything.” Harper added the playful reason behind how things changed at home: “And if you cook one bad meal and act like you don’t have to cook anything. all of a sudden it’s not your job anymore.. So highly recommended.”
As she talked, Harper’s husband, Devon Mendenhall, walked behind her in the video—one moment she tried to punctuate with humor: “He did not hear that. I did not know he was in the room.”
From there. she moved through her children’s bedrooms and pointed out a wooden box from her family filled with toys.. “This is my boys’ bedroom that they have already made themselves at home in.. And we’ve already been here for less than one hour. ” she said. continuing as she showed what she described as a childhood dollhouse she repainted for her children.
Harper also highlighted a quilt made by her grandmother for both of her children.. “Harper noted that her house is ‘full of very sentimental things.’” And then she summed it up in a way that landed as both sweet and personal: “If you haven’t realized. I’m a very sentimental person. ” she said.. “But once I’m here, I don’t want to leave.. And now I have to go.”
She captioned the post with “HOME!!” and wrote that after living out of a hotel for the last 2 months. “home has never felt sweeter.” Harper added that she’d repainted every single room in the house the week before they left for LA. saying she “kinda forgotten what the place even looked like. ” and that she was “Never been more thankful to be home with my people.”
Harper’s return to Willow Springs comes after she was crowned the winner of American Idol season 24 during the live finale on May 12.. Jordan McCullough was named runner-up, and Keyla Richardson placed third.. On Instagram at the time of her win, Harper wrote, “What a wild, beautiful journey this has been.. And somehow we’re just getting started.. Thank you to every single person who believed in me. prayed over me. voted. and helped carry this dream farther than I ever could’ve imagined.. Y’all changed my life.”
She continued. “I’m beyond thankful for the doors the Lord has opened and for the opportunity to walk this path.. I’ll see y’all on the road soon … tour dates coming your way.. 🤍. ” and closed with a Bible quote from Jeremiah 29:11 (CSB): “‘For I know the plans I have for you’— this is the Lord’s declaration — ‘plans for your well-being. not for disaster. to give you a future and a hope.’”
Now, in a house tour filmed straight from the life she built between auditions and applause, Harper isn’t just showing fans what her home looks like. She’s showing where the hardest seasons of her story happened—and why coming back mattered.
