GWAR’s mock Trump execution triggers Secret Service scrutiny

GWAR Secret – Shock-rock metal band GWAR says the U.S. Secret Service has contacted it after a viral on-stage mock execution of President Donald Trump during a recent stop at Warped Tour in Washington. Frontman Mike “Blöthar the Berserker” Bishop says the band’s similar pas

On a Washington stage at Warped Tour, GWAR reenacted a mock execution of President Donald Trump—turning a decades-old GWAR stunt into a moment that quickly left the band’s fanbase behind.

The long-running heavy metal group, formed in Virginia, is known for elaborate costumes, graphic imagery, and over-the-top violence. In that recent live performance, the band’s theatrical act drew attention far beyond its usual audience—and, according to GWAR, it also drew federal attention.

GWAR says the U.S. Secret Service has begun scrutiny after the viral performance. with the band describing it as the first time authorities have investigated one of its politically charged stage acts. The controversy sits awkwardly beside the band’s history: for years. GWAR has incorporated similar stunts into live shows. including portraying the deaths of numerous public figures. such as former presidents and Princess Diana.

Frontman Mike “Blöthar the Berserker” Bishop told the radio show “Rockin’ with Jam Man” that the fallout was different this time. He said the band had previously targeted political figures without the same kind of response.

“We killed President [Barack] Obama. We didn’t hear from the Secret Service. But you kill Trump, and you better believe that there’s gonna be some s*** going on,” Bishop said.

Bishop added that federal authorities recently contacted the band over the viral performance. “It happened to us not too long ago,” he said. When asked whether they had been investigated by the Secret Service, Bishop replied, “Let’s just say that GWAR is on some lists.”

The frontman connected that shift to a wider change in how audiences and industry figures respond to GWAR’s brand of provocation. “For years, GWAR would do whatever the f*** we wanted. We would kill politicians from both sides of the aisle. We would kill famous people. We never had any backlash,” Bishop claimed. “But until Donald Trump got in office. that’s when people started getting extremely upset about politics and music and politics in art.”.

He also said the pressure has spilled beyond the stage and into business relationships. Bishop claimed the controversy hurt the band’s relationships with promoters, pointing specifically to Live Nation. “Especially a company like Live Nation. which is a big concert company that does shows and stuff like that. they are susceptible to pressure from the government. ” he said. “And when you upset them. they can lean on you. and that is f****** censorship. no matter what you call it. So we have faced that. GWAR faces it all the time. It’s a real f****** thing.”.

That sequence—viral mock execution of Trump. prior on-stage killings of other political figures without federal response. and then a Secret Service contact after this particular performance—has put GWAR’s theater on a new kind of spotlight. The band’s stage violence is built to shock. but this time the backlash is coming from a different direction: the federal government.

  1. Secret Service is really going after a band like GWAR? Seems kinda wild, like let people do their shock thing.

  2. So they “mock executed” Trump on stage and now the Secret Service is involved… didn’t GWAR do stuff like this for years? I swear the rules change depending on who the joke is about.

  3. I’m confused because they literally say they killed Obama and nothing happened, so that means it’s just selective enforcement? Or is it only because it went viral on TikTok/YouTube or whatever? Also when they say “on lists” like is that a joke or serious.

  4. GWAR always had crazy stage violence, graphic costumes, all that. But if cops are watching them now, it’s probably because people are dumb and take it too literal, right? Still feels like overreach to me. I just don’t get why they picked THIS moment at Warped Tour in Washington… like was it the location or the fact it was Trump?
