Thursday night’s prom at Indian Pond Country Club in Kingston unfolded with extra officers nearby—after an 18-year-old allegedly pulled a black handgun during an argument just outside the venue.
Police said the incident began around 7:15 p.m. when a police officer on-site at the club. at 60 Country Club Way. requested patrol-unit assistance after reports that someone with a gun was in the parking lot. The South Shore Technical High School prom was being held there, police said. The school is located in Hanover.
The man. who was not a student at the school but “was known to attendees. ” got into an argument with two female students in the parking lot. Kingston police said. As the confrontation escalated. police reported that he threatened to run over one of the students with a car before displaying a black firearm.
Police said the man pointed the weapon toward the sky and appeared to chamber a round. He then fled the scene.
No injuries were reported. but the incident led to an increased police presence at the dance and a law enforcement alert. authorities said. After witness interviews. police tracked the suspect to his home in Randolph. where he “surrendered peacefully. ” according to the police statement. The suspect was taken into custody that night.
“There is no known public safety risk at this time,” police said. Authorities have not released the suspect’s identity.
The investigation remains active. Detectives are pursuing further legal authorization to carry out searches and seizures related to the case, police said.

So he just runs off with a gun and then surrenders… crazy.
Wait it was outside the prom? Like in the parking lot with everyone leaving? That’s terrifying. Glad nobody got hurt but how does this even happen at a school event.
If he pointed it at the sky and “chambered a round” like they said, then it sounds like he was basically about to shoot up there or something. Also they keep saying no public safety risk now… but what about earlier? Just feels like the story is missing parts.
They said he wasn’t even a student but was known to attendees?? That’s how it always starts, like somebody’s cousin or whatever. Also why were they letting people with cars loiter around the high school prom parking lot anyway. I don’t buy the “no known risk” thing, these things don’t just reset after he surrenders.
