Guardiola’s farewell spark turns into Pike friendship

Guardiola friendship – Pep Guardiola’s emotional exit from Manchester City in his final season carried an unexpected human detail: his longtime in-house interview connection with presenter Natalie Pike blossomed into a close friendship, marked by a playful “love you” message after h

Pep Guardiola’s final week at Manchester City didn’t just end with trophies, banners and goodbyes to the Etihad crowd. It also left behind a bond that started on the pitchside microphone and carried into the city’s celebrations.

During his last season as City boss. the Spaniard’s pitch interviews were handled by Natalie Pike. 43. who has worked as a presenter for the club’s in-house TV channel since 2011. Pike reflected on working closely with Guardiola as his time at the club came to an end. and later sent him a message that was half farewell. half inside joke.

Last month, Guardiola gave an emotional farewell to City. His final interview on the pitch at the Etihad was conducted by Pike, and the two spoke again the following day during a parade in the city to celebrate their FA Cup and Carabao Cup success in his final season.

Pike, a former model for FHM magazine, had described overseeing Guardiola’s final interviews as the “greatest honour.” On the pitch, she told him: “What you’ve done for our football club is immeasurable. Manchester is blue because of you, Pep.”

She later shared a video from backstage of the celebration event. where the club presented all the trophies Guardiola had won during his time at City lined up in one place. Pike said: “Seeing a decade of history all in one place. it’s just a reminder of how good it has been. Pure gratitude.” In another clip from the same weekend, Pike and Guardiola were seen embracing.

After hosting what she described as one of the most personal weekends of her career. Pike admitted it had been “one of the most emotional weekends I have ever experienced.” She later posted a light-hearted twist to her tribute. joking that the experience of interviewing Guardiola for the final time on the pitch had been eclipsed by her performance in fantasy football.

“Love you Pep, but me and fantasy football are forever,” Pike wrote, with laughing emojis.

Her message lands on the back of a claim that their working relationship has grown into something closer. The account described Pike and Guardiola becoming friends after a series of interviews conducted over Guardiola’s 10-year spell at the club. with a source saying: “Natalie was doing all the presenting and does a lot of the interviews with the players and manager. They became friends.”.

Pike’s role is far broader than City matchdays. She also works for BBC Radio Five, talkSPORT, DAZN and Race Day TV.

Guardiola’s departure itself remains tied to what his final season at the Etihad delivered—and what it didn’t. He lifted 17 major trophies at the club, but finished runners-up to Arsenal in the Premier League. Enzo Maresca is waiting to take over once compensation with Chelsea is agreed.

The farewell weekend was also marked by family presence and a separate, more private story running alongside football. Guardiola’s family had been present for his final match as City boss last month—a 2-1 home defeat to Aston Villa. Pike’s clips captured the public emotion of the celebrations. but Guardiola’s speech to fans included his personal acknowledgement of his wife. Cristina Serra. calling her an “exceptional woman” as she joined a Guardiola family photo.

Guardiola and Serra met in 1994 and married in 2014, but news of their shock split broke in January last year. Last year, it was reported that the couple began divorce proceedings in 2024 after 30 years together, with Serra upset by Guardiola’s decision to sign a new contract at City until 2027.

More recent reporting suggested they were trying to reconcile. and Guardiola had been linked with international work—said to allow him to spend more time in Barcelona. A claim from April 2025 said: “Pep Guardiola and Cristina Serra still wear their wedding rings. They’re trying to reconcile. He came to her house for three days this Easter and stayed the night there.”.

That account added that Guardiola was “saying he could be in Manchester and come see her on a private plane in Barcelona once a week, then leave again,” while Serra wanted to separate because he had “secretly renewed his contract, without speaking to Cristina, but Pep wants to stay with her.”

In Manchester. though. the farewell that played out in public came with a simpler message—one that sounded like Guardiola’s football life. but also like something warmer. Pike’s “love you Pep” wasn’t dressed up as a headline. It was just the kind of goodbye that sticks when someone’s presence has been felt up close for a decade.

  1. I didn’t even realize she did the interviews that whole time. FHM model?? That part feels random to me but hey, love you message sounds wholesome.

  2. Wait are they saying the trophies were lined up like a parade? Because I thought the club always does that and Pep just leaves quietly. Also “pitchside microphone” like he had his own mic guy lol.

  3. Man social media really makes everything dramatic. I saw “Manchester is blue because of you, Pep” and was like okay but isn’t that just marketing lines? Still, they hugged onstage so I guess it worked out. Kinda weird they mention she was a model for FHM like that explains her job though.
