GOP Megadonor Trashes Trump’s Proposed $5K ‘Circus Bribes’: I’m ‘Strongly Against’

A major donor for the Republican Party expressed disappointment Wednesday in President Donald Trump’s pledge to pay Americans if the GOP won the midterms.
During Wednesday night’s RNC midterm convention in Dallas, Texas, Trump announced that his administration would pay a “dividend” to every American adult if Republicans maintained control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate. The dividend, the president continued, would be $5,000.
Critics were quick to accuse Trump of trying to dangle a bribe to voters. Vice President JD Vance claimed Trump was simply paying Americans with the revenue gained from his tariffs.
Regardless of explanation, Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale was not a fan. In a Wednesday night tweet, Lonsdale — a Trump donor who threw a major party in Dallas Wednesday in tandem with Donald Trump Jr. — said:
For the record, I am hugely in favor of winning the midterms, and love much about this admin, but am strongly against bread and circus bribes.
One X/Twitter user responded to Lonsdale tweet’s by saying, “It’s our money, we should have it.” In response, Lonsdale sarcastically suggested that the dividend should be raised to $5 million because “we can just print money.”
