Google’s Android push: Gemini-powered “Googlebook” and new security controls

Googlebook laptops – Google previewed Gemini-tied Android features including a premium “Googlebook” category for AI, stronger call and “Mark as Lost” protections, and new iOS-to-Android transfer tools.
Something is shifting under Android, and Google used its 2026 Android Show to make the direction clear: deeper Gemini integration, a new class of premium laptops built around the assistant, and tighter security controls aimed at everyday scams.
The star tease was the “Googlebook,” a new category of premium Android-based laptops designed for Gemini.. Google says the first models this fall will come from PC makers including Acer. Asus. Dell. HP and Lenovo. rather than being built directly by Google.. Visually and functionally, Google points to a multicolor “glowbar” and a revamped cursor feature called a Magic Pointer.. The idea is that the pointer can act as a contextual AI shortcut, with Gemini Intelligence tied into that workflow.
Google also previewed how it plans to unify its advanced AI features under the Gemini Intelligence name.. A rebrand is scheduled to land on the Pixel 10 and Galaxy S26, beginning this summer.. The assistant’s capabilities will include app automation for multi-step tasks across different apps. such as pulling information from an email to help build a shopping cart or book a taxi.
Creativity features are also in the mix.. A built-in tool coming to Pixel first is designed to let creators record themselves and their screen at the same time for “reaction” videos without needing a green screen.. The show’s pitch was that creators should be able to produce more flexible content with fewer extra steps.
Security and privacy changes were among the most concrete details.. Google says it will add the ability to automatically identify and end calls from spoofed numbers impersonating banks.. It is also tightening the “Mark as Lost” flow. which will now require a biometric unlock. such as a fingerprint. for anyone who finds the device.
The company also plans to lean on on-device AI to flag apps that it says abuse permissions or hide icons. Those updates suggest Google is trying to reduce both the most common scam techniques and the less visible behavior that can make malicious apps harder to notice.
Beyond Pixel and phones, Google framed the platform as becoming easier to move across.. It teased rebuilt interoperability tools. including a fully wireless iOS-to-Android transfer process that preserves home screen layouts as users switch from Apple devices to Android.. Android Auto. meanwhile. is getting a modern Material 3 design. with edge-to-edge Google Maps views and more Gemini “hooks” designed to bring the assistant into the car experience more naturally.
Google’s Android Show clearly set the tone for next week’s larger I/O event.. But the company’s message was also practical: Gemini is moving from a feature you ask into something that can anticipate what you’re trying to do. whether that’s building a cart. arranging travel. or securing a device against the tactics that keep evolving.
