Google TV adds World Cup hub with live, highlights

Google TV is rolling out a World Cup hub on its Sports topic page, letting viewers jump into live matches, check upcoming kickoffs, and watch highlights and post-game analysis from partnering apps. The hub runs from now until June 19.

On the page, viewers can jump into currently airing games from the live matches area. There’s also a clear “Upcoming Games” row that lists match dates and kickoff times, along with the schedule so you can get ahead of the next kickoff instead of hunting for it.

When the final whistle blows, the hub doesn’t leave you hanging. Match highlights and game summaries are pulled from apps including FOX One, Tubi, and YouTube TV.   1. I don’t even watch the World Cup but this sounds like it’ll just make my screen cluttered. Why can’t it just show scores in one spot? Also June 19 like… does it disappear and then come back or what

  2. Wait this says highlights and post-game analysis from FOX One, Tubi, and YouTube TV… but are those free? Cuz if I have to switch subscriptions anyway then it’s not really “one hub.” I saw YouTube TV in there and got hopeful then I’m like nah

  3. Google TV trying to be the sports website now, okay. I kinda don’t trust it though—every time something says “live matches” it lags for me like 2 minutes. Also FOX One and Tubi like why would Tubi be covering sports? maybe I’m mixing it up with something else. June 19 is weird too, like they’re just gonna cut it off right when it gets good
