Google Photos expands Ask Photos editing, Android only

Google’s AI editor in Google Photos—“Edit with Ask Photos”—is rolling out to Germany, the UK, France, Spain, and Italy, but only on Android. The feature was previously available in the US, Australia, India, and Japan and lets users describe edits in plain lang

Google Photos is finally making “photo editing” feel less like a chore—at least for Android users in Europe.

The AI-powered feature inside the app, “Edit with Ask Photos,” lets people adjust images using natural-language prompts. Instead of hunting for the right slider or tool. users can type what they want done. like “remove the glare. ” “restore this old photo. ” or “remove the distractions in the background.” Google says the rollout is now expanding beyond its earlier launch footprint.

Until now, the feature was available in the US, Australia, India, and Japan. In a recent community post. Google announced it is rolling it out in Germany. the UK. France. Spain. and Italy—five new markets. The company also warned the rollout is live but gradual. meaning users in these regions may not see the feature appear immediately.

Once the feature shows up, it aims to lower the barrier for people who find traditional editing tools intimidating or too time-consuming. Google’s pitch is straightforward: describe the edit, and the app handles the rest.

There’s one catch, and it’s sharp. Google says the European expansion is limited to Android for now. In the US. Edit with Ask Photos is also available on iOS. but Google has not said whether iOS access will be extended to Germany. the UK. France. Spain. and Italy. For now. iPhone users in those countries will need to wait for an update. and Google hasn’t committed to a timeline.

The rollout lands soon after Google added a Touch Up suite to the Photos app, introducing face retouching tools for the first time. That suite lets users smooth skin, whiten teeth, and brighten eyes directly inside the app—without needing a third-party editor.

With “Edit with Ask Photos” expanding to more countries on Android and Touch Up joining the in-app toolkit. Google is clearly pressing toward one goal: make Photos feel like it can handle more of the work people typically outsource to separate apps. For now. the difference between an Android user getting the AI editor and an iPhone user waiting for it is the reality of this rollout.

  1. I tried something like this and it made everyone look weirdly smooth, like cartoon skin. Also why does Google keep limiting stuff by phone brand??

  2. Wait so if you’re in like Germany and you have an iPhone you just can’t edit photos at all now? Or do you mean like it’s slow to show up? Kinda confusing.

  3. This “Ask Photos” thing sounds cool but I don’t trust it. Like “remove distractions” sounds great until it removes the wrong person/background and you don’t notice. And the fact it’s Android only in those countries… I bet it’ll be a paywall later or something.
