Google Home delays hit users as replies hang or time out

Users in the US and Canada report Google Home devices taking up to a minute to respond—or timing out entirely. The issue appears widespread over the past several hours, while Google’s Cloud/Workspace status trackers and the Nest status page show no related out

Google Home users aren’t just getting slower replies today — for many, the devices don’t respond at all.

Across the past several hours. people posting on Reddit’s Google Home community have described hardware that takes the better part of a minute to answer. or times out entirely. The complaints read the same in different homes: you ask. you wait. and then the assistant either finally returns with a delayed response or fails to complete the interaction.

The timing of it matters, because Home is already in the middle of a shift in how it works. Google Home is changing right now and a lot of that has to do with Gemini. Google has had access to the next-gen assistant since last year. and this month marked the arrival of the Gemini-first Google Home Speaker. For some, adjusting to those updates may already be uncomfortable. Today’s reports, however, suggest something more immediate and more disruptive.

Geography doesn’t seem to offer much comfort. Users in both Canada and the US are reporting the same kinds of failures. On the East Coast. our own testing shows Home is currently working just fine — but that doesn’t settle the question of whether the problem is limited. inconsistent. or truly widespread.

What’s also raising eyebrows for affected owners is what they can’t see. None of Google’s Cloud or Workspace status trackers report any relevant issue. and the Nest status page also shows no related problem. That gap between user experience and public status visibility is exactly the kind of mismatch that leaves people stuck troubleshooting on their own.

Google has been contacted for more detail about the issues seen today. Until a response comes back, the clearest picture is coming directly from users describing devices that are either taking too long to listen and respond or not finishing the job at all.

  1. So it’s the Gemini update messing things up again? I swear every time Google changes something it’s worse for like a day or a week. I tried asking it for the weather and it wouldn’t even finish the sentence.

  2. I don’t buy the “status page says nothing” part lol. Those trackers are always behind or they just don’t care unless it hits a huge outage. Mine took like 45 seconds to respond and then acted like it didn’t hear me. Also, I’m on the East Coast so maybe it’s random??

  3. This is why I don’t trust smart speakers. Like if it’s listening for a whole minute that’s sketchy. The article says cloud/Workspace is fine but my house is not fine, so what is that even supposed to mean? Might be my WiFi, but it only happens today and it’s the same story I’m seeing everywhere, so… Google problem? Idk. Waiting on Google to “get back” like that’ll help me.
