The update that effectively bricks Pixel Studio is rolling out now, though it could take a while to reach everyone. For users who do get the change after downloading the update. the interface doesn’t just redirect—it also nudges them toward a different option for generating images. Pixel Studio suggests users try Nano Banana for image generation.
Pixel Studio launched in 2024, alongside the Pixel 9 smartphone. It was built around AI image generation: users could type prompts to create images quickly. and it also supported features like creating stickers based on pre-existing photos. But this shutdown isn’t a sudden disappearance without warning.
Google announced it was winding down Pixel Studio in February, and the app had already been losing pieces along the way. A few months back, the photo editor was stripped of AI tools—one of the clearer signs that the app’s role was narrowing before the plug was pulled.

Man Google loves doing this. First it’s “Pixel-only” then poof, now it’s basically a portal to Gemini and a different generator. Also, who even uses Nano Banana lol. I’m guessing the update “bricks” it so people stop complaining and just download the other stuff.
