Google Contacts shifts “Your info” ahead of Tap to Share

Google Contacts is moving the “Your info” page to the top of the contacts list and updating how it’s edited, signaling preparation for an AirDrop-like Tap to Share feature for quick sharing.

A quick tap to share something across phones has the kind of convenience people end up using without thinking. That’s exactly the feeling Google is chasing with an AirDrop-like Tap to Share feature. And before Tap to Share ever appears in public, Google Contacts seems to be quietly rearranging one key screen.

In the latest app version under scrutiny—Google Contacts version 4.82.29.936766038—researchers taking apart the code have found early signs that the “Your info” section is being treated as a frontline feature. Right now, “Your info” lives deeper in app settings. It’s where you fill out your own details, but you don’t stumble on it. The work going into this update points to a different reality: that page is set to move to the top of the contacts list for faster access.

Why that matters is simple. Tap to Share is designed for sharing photos, videos, contacts, and more. If Google wants users to hand over their personal details in an instant—especially when they’re physically near someone—buried settings don’t match the moment. The change being prepared in Contacts looks like it’s meant to make “Your info” ready at a glance.

The update also appears to reshape editing. When users tap the pencil icon in the top-right, they’ll reach a revised editing screen. The code suggests direct Google account integration will come into play—pulling up your name and photo near the top and automatically adding your email address. If you want a different email, the interface is expected to let you change it.

Once “Your info” is filled out, the next step looks even more purpose-built. There should be a share icon next to “Your info” at the top of the contact list. allowing you to send it to someone quickly—mirroring the sharing option that already exists when you reach “Your info” from deep inside the settings.

The clearest clue is how the parts connect. In the code, fresh references to “Your info” show up right alongside Tap to Share. Put together, the evidence reads less like a random UI refresh and more like Contacts adjusting itself for a new sharing workflow.

There’s just one missing piece: timing. Nothing in this discovery pins down when Tap to Share will be ready. Still, the work being prepared in Contacts suggests it’s close enough to plan around—and the next check will come when Android 17 Feature Drops offer any sign of what’s next.

  1. So now Google is putting “your info” up top to make it faster to share? Cool but also why does it feel like they’re pushing me to do it without thinking…

  2. I saw this and thought it meant they’re gonna start sharing everyone’s contact info automatically lol. Like, tap to share my email? I don’t even trust Bluetooth half the time.

  3. Wait, “Tap to Share” like AirDrop? But Google Contacts already has that send/share thing so why the rearranging? Also the article mentions Android 17 Feature Drops which sounds fake like it’s not even real yet.

  4. They moved the pencil icon and now you “automatically add your email”?? That’s just gonna make people leak stuff faster. Next thing you know it’ll tap to share your whole account every time you open contacts. I’ll probably just keep ignoring the top part, because Google never stops meddling.
