Fundraiser launched after Dublin fire leaves mother, daughter homeless

A fundraiser has been launched for a mother and daughter who “lost everything” in a recent fire at a Dublin apartment complex. They were among a number of residents affected by the fire, losing all their possessions, clothing and memories, and now face the “difficult task of starting again from scratch.” Jalna Swain is collecting funds for her sister and niece to cover emergency essentials and accommodation, as well as assistance towards reconstructing their lives. Dublin Fire Brigade confirmed they were called to the scene
shortly after 1am last Friday morning, May 22, with four fire engines responding to the incident on Auburn Avenue in Castleknock . Residents were evacuated and provided with breathing apparatus cylinders and blankets. They were subsequently taken to emergency accommodation following the fire. “My sister and her daughter, along with the other residents, had to leave the building with almost nothing,” said Jalna in a message shared on the GoFundMe page . “They escaped in just the pyjamas they were wearing at the time.” “In
a matter of moments, she lost her home, her belongings, her clothes, and many of the everyday things most of us take for granted. She is now facing the incredibly difficult task of starting again from scratch. We are raising funds to help her with the immediate and practical costs that come after something like this.” The fundraiser will support costs including temporary accommodation and living expenses, emergency clothing and essentials, toiletries and personal items, and replacing basic household goods , reports Dublin Live .
“Anyone who knows my sister will know that she would never expect people to help, but this is one of those moments where family, friends, neighbours and the wider community can make a real difference,” she continued, with the fundraising target established at €2,000. “Any donation, no matter how small, will help her and her daughter take the first steps towards getting back on their feet. If you are not able to donate, sharing this page would also mean a great deal.” You can view
the GoFundMe page here . A Garda spokesperson told Dublin Live at the time: “Gardaí and emergency services are at the scene of fire at a residential property in Blanchardstown, Co. Dublin today, today Friday 22 May 2026. Local diversions are in place”. Subscribe to our newsletter for the latest news from the Irish Mirror direct to your inbox: Sign up here .
