For Canada. the night also felt like a glimpse of what the NBA spotlight can do—on and off the court. Several Canadian players were in attendance even if they weren’t active for the game. RJ Barrett. Kelly Olynyk and Zach Edey all stopped to sign autographs and take photos with fans before the match and during stoppages.
Barrett is missing this qualifying window to manage his workload as he and the Toronto Raptors eye a contract extension. Olynyk was also resting. Edey is recovering from elbow and ankle surgery he had in March.
Back on the court, though, Hamilton belonged to Gilgeous-Alexander. Canada’s 110-84 win wasn’t just a statement on the scoreboard—it was the kind of start that keeps teams looking over their shoulder, even after qualification is already in the bag.
