Giants demote Hector Borg after Diamondbacks sweep

Giants demote – San Francisco’s collapse deepened with a sweep by the Arizona Diamondbacks, dropping the Giants to 22-34 and 14 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West. After the series, the team demoted third-base assistant coach Hector Borg, shifting him to play
By the time the Arizona Diamondbacks finished their sweep of the San Francisco Giants this week, the damage had already landed everywhere—on the scoreboard, in the standings, and now in the coaching staff.
The Giants were swept and their record slipped to 22-34. leaving them 14 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers for first place in the NL West. With their season on life support and their overall struggles piling up. San Francisco made a move right after the series: it demoted assistant coach Hector Borg.
Borg was moved out of his third-base role and into player development. Ron Wotus was brought in to return as the 3B coach on an interim basis, as shared by Bob Nightengale.
The decision isn’t just about one game or one inning. Baserunning problems were a major theme against the Diamondbacks. and Borg was at the center of those misreads on the basepaths. On a play in left-center field. Borg waved home Willy Adames. but the outfielder Ryan Waldschmidt was able to make the throw home. There was another instance in the same inning when Luis Arraez was picked off while he was being aggressively waved home.
San Francisco’s issues weren’t limited to isolated moments this week. The Giants are 0-6 against the Diamondbacks this season, and they’ve also tumbled toward the bottom of the standings.
Their stretch has been brutal for more reasons than just baserunning. The Giants have been without Logan Webb. their best pitcher. as they navigate a rough run in which they are 2-7 in their past nine games. Webb is returning this weekend, and he’s scheduled to get the start against the Colorado Rockies on Friday.
For the Giants, the next series isn’t just another stop on the calendar—it’s a potential pivot. San Francisco now faces the Rockies in a critical stretch that could decide whether they can snap out of the slide and still make a run this season.
