Giants bring in Beckham, Berrios, Smith-Schuster after injury blow

Giants workout – The New York Giants will work out three wide receivers on Monday—Odell Beckham Jr., Braxton Berrios and JuJu Smith-Schuster—as they search for answers after fears that Gunner Olszewski could be out for the 2026 season, while Malik Nabers and Darius Slayton dea

For a franchise already scrambling to keep its offense functional, the timing couldn’t be harsher: a non-contact injury in practice on Friday has left the New York Giants facing fresh uncertainty at wide receiver.

The immediate problem is Gunner Olszewski. The pass catcher went down during practice with a non-contact injury. needed to be carted off the field after teammates gathered around him near the end of a two-hour session. and early fears now point to an Achilles tear that could end his 2026 season before it has properly started. The team will conduct further examinations and testing.

Head coach John Harbaugh, asked about where things stand, offered only one line: “We’ll find out the situation.” It’s a sentence that carries weight in a building where the injury list is already too long.

Nabers, too, is fighting to be ready. Malik Nabers is recovering from a torn ACL. but he has already had to undergo a second procedure on his right knee to remove scar tissue that was causing stiffness. The Giants are hopeful—rather than confident—that he can return for Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys.

Darius Slayton remains sidelined as he recovers from hernia surgery, leaving the wide receiver group thin just as the season approaches.

With that backdrop, the Giants will workout three veteran wideouts on Monday in a bid to impress their head coach and address the injury crisis. Odell Beckham Jr., Braxton Berrios and JuJu Smith-Schuster are the three names on the tryout slate.

Beckham Jr. is 33 and has been out of the league since his contract with the Miami Dolphins was terminated in December 2024. That layoff came after he spent six weeks of last season suspended for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drugs policy. Beckham’s Giants roots run deep: he was first drafted by New York with the No. 12 overall pick in 2014, and he was named Offensive Rookie of the Year after his first season.

Berrios carries his own headline beyond football. The report notes he was dating model and influencer Alix Earle before they split in December after more than two years. On the roster side of the equation, he’s currently an unrestricted free agent.

Berrios spent last season with the Houston Texans, playing in just four games. Before that. he spent two years with the Dolphins and four with the New York Jets after getting drafted by the New England Patriots. He has built a reputation as a return specialist. but his involvement on special teams was limited last year—he played just 11 per cent of Houston’s special teams snaps. Offensively, he caught six passes on eight targets for 37 yards.

Then there is JuJu Smith-Schuster, a player who comes with a different kind of proof: championship experience. He is a Super Bowl champion after lifting the Lombardi Trophy during his first spell with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2023. After five seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers. he joined Kansas City in 2022 and played a key role in Patrick Mahomes’ offense. He left after one year and a Super Bowl win to play one season for the Patriots before returning to the Chiefs in 2024.

Last season, Smith-Schuster recorded 33 catches for 345 yards and one touchdown as the Chiefs failed to make the playoffs.

Between Olszewski’s early Achilles-injury fears and the ongoing recoveries for Nabers and Slayton. Monday’s workout isn’t just a roster exercise—it’s the next fork in a season that is already being shaped by setbacks. The Giants will find out what they have in these three wide receivers. even as they wait on medical clarity for the one injury that feels closest to season-ending trouble.
