Germany vs Paraguay Monday: Nagelsmann demands a win

On Monday Germany is set to take on Paraguay at the Gillette Stadium near Boston. The match marks Germany’s first knockout game at a World Cup since they won the championship in 2014, beating Argentina in the final. The Germans topped their group after hammering Curacao and edging out the Ivory Coast. But then were defeated by Ecuador, which did not stop the team from moving on but shook fans who had expected to cruise through the knockout rounds. Currently ranked 10th in the world,
Germany are not widely seen as having a good chance to win the trophy this year, even if coach Julian Nagelsmann insists that is their aim. “When you talk about the German national team, it is all about trying to win every game. It is all about winning the game tomorrow,” Nagelsmann said on Sunday. “It is all about winning in soccer. If you win, everything is perfect. If you lose, everything is shit. So we have to win tomorrow.” The former Bayern Munich coach
said his team had committed “tactical suicide” in their defeat by Ecuador despite taking an early lead. Unlike some other managers who took the opportunity to rest a number of key players for their last group match with qualification assured, Nagelsmann named almost a full-strength side for that game but is confident there will be no hangover. “We need a perfect performance tomorrow,” he added, “When I looked at the training session, I can tell you that I’m very happy and the boys, they will
bring their A-game [on Monday].” When’s the next game? The Germany versus Paraguay match kicks-off on Monday June 29th at 10:30 pm German time (Central European Summer Time – CEST). Should Germany win they will move on to the round of 16 where they would likely face France, currently ranked 2nd in FIFA’s men’s world rankings and widely regarded as one of the favourites at this year’s World Cup. Just ahead of the Germany match, Brazil will play Japan, starting at 7pm German time. How
