German Tourist Cries in Boston Over Warm Welcome

German tourist – A German man who traveled the United States during the World Cup said he was initially afraid to come, believing news reports about shootings and an unsafe country. In Boston, he described the trip as overwhelmingly emotional—so much so that he cried on camera

He wiped at his eyes again and again as the interview rolled on—first turning away from the camera, then lifting his German soccer jersey to wipe more tears—until the moment felt less like a travel story and more like an emotional release.

Sebastian Krause. a German man traveling across the United States during the World Cup. appeared on an interview in Boston with NBC 10 reporter Oscar Margáin. describing how strongly his trip changed his feelings about America. Krause told viewers he never expected his time in the country to be so emotional.

“I fall in love with this country and this was so emotional, I even cried in the stadium,” Krause said.

Margáin framed it as a stark departure from what Krause had anticipated before arriving. Krause said he had gone into the trip with fear—tied directly to news reports he had seen back home.

“To be honest, I was a bit scared or had a fear to travel to the United States. News about shootings and criminals and that the country’s not safe,” Krause explained.

In the interview footage. Margáin’s question about Krause’s trip led to the kind of visible reaction that made the exchange feel immediate: Krause appeared on the verge of hyperventilating as he described his “instant crush” on the USA. The video then shifted to a clip recorded on Krause’s phone—showing him being picked up and driven to his hotel by a group of Boston locals. In that moment. Krause said. “America is great. ” before the footage showed him stepping out and taking pictures with the people who had helped him.

Krause said he felt tears as he watched that clip back. He described watching it about 40 times.

Margáin also reported that Krause was more upset about leaving the United States than Germany being eliminated from the World Cup. Krause said he plans to stay in Washington, D.C. for the Fourth of July before heading home.

Toward the end of his remarks, Krause offered a simple message to close the gap between what he expected and what he experienced.

“Americans are not rude, Germans are not rude, if we are together, we can achieve great things,” Krause said.

  1. I mean I get being scared but why would news reports about shootings = instant crush lol. Glad he enjoyed it though.

  2. So he feared shootings and criminals… but then he’s like “picked up by Boston locals” which is basically how it starts in those news stories too. Not sure I buy it. Also who cares about the World Cup when he’s crying in a stadium.

  3. This made me feel weirdly emotional too, like maybe the stereotypes are wrong. But also I feel like “America not safe” is still kinda true? Like it’s not rude that’s for sure. He should keep that energy when he goes back to Germany, unless Germany is secretly the safest place ever. Washington DC for the Fourth of July sounds fun though.
