George R. R. Martin needs no introduction, with much of his fame coming from Game of Thrones, the series that went on to rule screens across households. Now, the author is teasing a new move connected to the series, promising an “exhilarating journey.”

After a sell-out run, ‘Game of Thrones: The Mad King’ will bring Westeros to London

Recently, the American author addressed fans on Instagram with a brief video, during which George R. R. Martin revealed that after a sell-out run, “Game of Thrones: The Mad King” will bring Westeros to London.

According to Deadline, Martin wrote, “I had an absolutely splendid time in Stratford-upon-Avon for the premier and am thrilled the production will be moving to London to share the experience with a wider audience. It promises to be an exhilarating journey.”

For context, the final performance will take place on Saturday, September 5, at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre of the RSC in Stratford-upon-Avon. The adaptation comes from George R. R. Martin’s novels, with Duncan Macmillan adapting it and Dominic Cooke directing it.

RSC Co-Artistic Directors Daniel Evans and Tamara Harvey also shared their reactions to these upcoming developments.

“We are thrilled that George R. R. Martin’s Game of Thrones: The Mad King will have a future life in London,” they added. “This production is unique and brilliantly demonstrates the extraordinary things that theatre can do.”

The process of adapting George R. R. Martin’s famous work for the stage has been underway for some time. Dominic Cooke and the author officially announced the project in February 2026.

Game of Thrones: The Mad King began on July 28, 2026. Its current run will conclude on September 5, 2026. The show will then open in London in 2027.

The George R. R. Martin adaptation features Duncan Macmillan as the adaptor and writer. Dominic Cooke serves as the director. Nick Barnes and Finn Caldwell serve as the puppetry and movement directors.
