Fresh off a standout collegiate career at Boise State University, Parksville’s Gavyn Knight is taking the next step in his golfing journey. The former B.C. junior champion is focusing on one day earning a spot on the PGA Tour. “I wouldn’t be trying to play golf for any other reason,” Knight said of his long-term goal. Knight leaves Boise State after recording 11 top-25 finishes over his collegiate career. He already is off to a good post-college start, as he captured the 2026 Discovery Honda
Cowichan Open at Cowichan Golf Club in June, edging Andy Johnson by one stroke. His has a hectic schedule over the coming months that includes the Glencoe Invitational and the Mickelson National Invitational in Calgary, along with Vancouver Golf Tour events and Monday qualifiers for the PGA Tour Americas and Korn Ferry Tour. This fall, he plans to compete in a pre-qualifier for PGA Tour Q-School. There is significant financial cost attached to playing all of these tournaments. And to help Knight in reaching the
pinnacle of the sport, a fundraising tournament is being planned next month. The community will have an opportunity to support Knight’s journey at the inaugural Gavyn Knight Invitational on Sunday, Aug. 30 at Morningstar Golf Club in Parksville. The fundraiser will feature a four-person scramble with a 2 p.m. shotgun start. Proceeds from the event will help cover tournament entry fees, travel, coaching, equipment and training as Knight pursues a career in professional golf. Organizers are seeking golfers, sponsors and donors to help offset the
costs of competing on tour. While the financial costs of competing are significant, Knight said the biggest challenge has been trusting the process. “I would say putting the work in and the results not yet showing,” he said. “The ability to trust the work you put in is half of the grind for me. Playing pro golf is a privilege though, so that would be a minor challenge in the life I’ve started to live.” Knight credits his four years at Boise State with helping
him mature both as a golfer and as a person. “I think it helped me with having a different perspective and maturing both on and off the golf course,” he said. “Playing college golf had me, for once, playing for something bigger than myself. Understanding that my teammates need me and rely on me helped me transition into pro golf because I’m not the only person I’m playing for.” Later this month, Knight will return to the Mickelson National Invitational, where he finished runner-up in

Wait so he left Boise State… to go to PGA but he just won some tournament in June right? That’s cool I guess, but also seems like a lot of qualifiers and stuff.
“Trusting the process” is doing a lot of work here. If he’s that good, why does he need a fundraising scramble? Like shouldn’t sponsors already cover this stuff? Also Andy Johnson by one stroke sounds made up, sorry.
I love that there’s a fundraiser, but isn’t the PGA Tour like only US guys? I might be wrong. Four-person scramble Aug 30 at Morningstar… hope they actually raise enough for coaching and equipment. Also Monday qualifiers? Isn’t that like for a different tour? Just seems confusing, but good luck to him.
