Fujifilm X – Fujifilm has cut the MSRP of its whimsical X Half digital camera again—now down to $649.99, with an additional $100 discount running through June 28.
Fujifilm’s X Half has never really pretended to be a replacement for a main camera.. Still. with an original ludicrous $850 price tag. it was easy to see why people might think that’s what it was meant to do.. The company has since brought the MSRP down to $649.99, and now there’s an additional $100 cut available through June 28th.
That double price jolt drops the X Half to around $549 in its base configuration at Amazon. B&H Photo. and Best Buy.. Adorama is discounting it to the same price and sweetening the deal with a free accessory pack.. That pack includes a 64GB SanDisk SD card and a camera case. adding a bit more practical value to a camera that’s otherwise built around play.
The X Half’s appeal comes from its not-quite-like-everything-else design.. It’s a feature-light shooter meant to evoke the feel of a half-frame film camera. and it can capture 18-megapixel stills that can be styled in a number of ways.. Fujifilm lets you add film simulations. filters. and grain. and it also supports “digital diptychs. ” including an option to have the date baked into the photos.
Some photographers will feel right at home with that approach—especially those looking for something scrappier and more spontaneous.. When MISRYOUM published hands-on impressions last year. former Verge supervising producer Vjeran Pavic described the X Half as both whimsical and refreshing.. He also said he enjoyed taking “scrappy, quick photos” with it.. MISRYOUM’s Antonio Di Bennedeto had similar fun with the camera, even while being turned off by the original price.
The tradeoff is what keeps it from matching the expectations set by many modern digital cameras. The X Half doesn’t offer RAW image capture, it lacks a hot shoe for attaching accessories, and it does not include an electronic viewfinder.
The pattern is straightforward: the more Fujifilm leans into a simple half-frame experience—18-megapixel stills, film simulations, filters, grain, and digital diptychs with optional baked-in dates—the more it gives up mainstream conveniences like RAW, a hot shoe, and an electronic viewfinder.
