Leboncoin, France’s Craigslist-style marketplace

France’s biggest online buy-and-sell site is Leboncoin (le bon coin = the good corner, pronounced luh-bohn-cwah) is similar to the Craigslist in that it allows people to list and consult classified advertisements online. Founded in 2006 it now has tens of thousands and listings, plus a few scammers, and is France’s largest site of this type. People use it for everything from selling second-hand furniture, goods, clothes and shoes to listing jobs or services. Some people even list apartments for rent or for sale –

although you need to be careful that you are not being scammed, it can be a good place to find cheap apartment rentals or sub-lets. One thing to note is that to create a Leboncoin account, you will need either a French phone number or one from a border country – find the full list here. Once you are registered, the site works in a very similar fashion to Craigslist, with search parameters for both buying and selling. Find our full guide to using it,
