San Francisco 49ers linebacker Fred Warner should teach it to his teammates to have a fuller experience in Australia.
San Francisco 49ers linebacker Fred Warner is raring to return to action after being limited to a career-low six games last season because of an ankle injury.
Warner pushed himself hard in rehabilitation and maintained a positive disposition despite the debilitating setback. Now, he is ready to suit up in Week 1 on Friday, with the 49ers facing the Los Angeles Rams in Melbourne in the NFL’s first-ever regular-season meeting in Australia.
The 49ers have been enjoying their time in Melbourne, experiencing the lay of the land and trying new stuff, including the amazing coffee, as running back Christian McCaffrey would attest.
Warner, meanwhile, was given a phonetic lesson.
“I love Australia. I love ‘Mel-bin,’ even though it’s spelled ‘Melbourne.’ I’ve learned it’s (pronounced as) ‘Mel-bin,’” said Warner in the video posted by the San Francisco Chronicle’s Harrison Rich.
“I love the people. Everybody’s welcomed us with open arms. I know the weather’s been a little (inconsistent), rainy and sunny, but I like it. I think it’s great. I think it’ll make for a great game on Friday.”

Before his ankle injury, Warner had only missed one game in seven seasons. He did not have any physical restrictions in training camp and is ready to team up with his fellow returnee, defensive end Nick Bosa, who suffered an ACL injury last season and was limited to three games.
Despite their absence, San Francisco advanced to the divisional round of the playoffs.
The 49ers have a better outlook this season, and what better way to start it than by winning in Melbourne. Sorry, Mel-bin.
