Francesca Hong Now Claims Thanksgiving Is Her Favorite Holiday — After Calling to Cancel It

From cancellation to celebration.
Wisconsin gubernatorial candidate Francesca Hong (D) told Politico on Wednesday her favorite holiday is Thanksgiving — which stands out, considering the democratic socialist previously called for aborting the holiday and couldn’t answer whether she still felt that way or not during a CNN appearance two days earlier.
“Yup. I don’t want to cancel it, I actually love it,” Hong admitted during a Playbook podcast interview.
She told reporter Irie Sentner she celebrates the holiday with both her family and her in-laws… which is pretty standard stuff. Her “ICE OUT” pin and Milwaukee Bucks hat were prominently featured in the background as she dished about her newfound love for Thanksgiving.
“It’s a big event,” she said, before adding, “I’m gonna be real, I’m kind of a curmudgeon when it comes to holidays in general.”
But she hasn’t always been a fan. Hong said Thanksgiving should be canned in a since-deleted X post from 2021, arguing it was something that should have been done 500 years earlier.
“If it takes a worldwide pandemic for us to realize we should stop celebrating colonialism and the original superspreader event that killed Indegenous [sic] folx [sic] and women so be it,” Hong said at the time.
And she couldn’t give a straight answer when CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins confronted her about it on Monday night.
“Do you still believe that Thanksgiving should be canceled?” Collins asked.
Hong answered with a rambling 46-second response that touched on her professional restaurant experience and her belief Thanksgiving is “incredibly painful” for many Americans.
Here was her full answer:
I’m a chef, and one of the first meals that I made that was for the community when i was 16 was a Thanksgiving meal. I always think my hospitality background and owning a restaurant for 7-8 years, that bringing folks around the table to share conversation and build community is always a good thing.
But Thanksgiving is also a time that’s incredibly painful for many people in our communities. So I think there I wanted to make sure people understood there are multiple views, but views can evolve.
And the position I’m running for right now — and I think my background as a chef will actually help me become a better governor that’s able to bring more people to the table.
In the end, she never gave CNN an actual “yes” or “no” answer.
