Fran Drescher’s – Fran Drescher says her “gay ex-husband” Peter Marc Jacobson is both her best friend and a constant presence—though she and Peter try to keep him from “c–kblock[ing]” her romantic moments on vacation.
Fran Drescher didn’t have to search for a way to describe her ex-husband—she already had one that came with a laugh.
The 68-year-old The Nanny star. who was married to Peter Marc Jacobson. also 68. for 21 years before they divorced in 1999. says she and Peter have stayed extremely close even after his coming out as gay. She recently discussed a vacation she took with him, and explained the one rule she follows while they’re together.
“He’s my gay ex-husband. He’s my best friend and he’s always around,” Fran told People. “But we try and make sure that he’s not too much of a c–kblock.”
When the conversation turned to whether having Peter around on trips discourages other men from approaching her, Fran said the dynamic does its work—at least to a point. “That might have been, but for the most part, everybody knows who he is.”
The bond between them is built on more than friendship. While they were married, Fran and Peter co-created The Nanny, which ran from 1993 to 1999, the same year they divorced. Two years later, Peter came out as gay. They kept collaborating after that, including co-creating Happily Divorced, a sitcom based on their real-life experience.
“He’s my life partner. He’s my work partner,” Fran added about Peter.
In a separate interview last year about her love life, Fran also revealed that she has “a little rotation” of “friends with benefits.”
