Fox News host Tomi Lahren sharply criticized the Republican Party, calling the GOP an “utter embarrassment” and arguing that economic pressures on working Americans have made socialism more attractive to voters who are struggling to afford basic necessities. Lahren also attacked GOP lawmakers supporting continued U.S. military operations against Iran, accusing them of being disconnected from rising costs facing consumers. Her remarks come as President Donald Trump faces growing pressure to end the nearly six-month conflict ahead of a midterm election in which the economy tops the list of voter concerns.

Lahren argued that the appeal of socialism among some Americans reflects dissatisfaction with Republican leadership rather than an ideological shift among younger voters. “Let’s be frank about it, some Americans are turning to socialism because Republicans have failed us so dismally that even the most destructive economic model imaginable feels palatable to people who are struggling to make ends meet and buy groceries,” Lahren wrote on X. She clarified that she was not referring to wealthy younger voters or “Gen Z brats” but to “middle class working families who don’t indulge on luxuries and just try to make it.”

Lahren’s criticism extended to Republicans backing the continued military action against Iran. She argued that lawmakers supporting the war are “likely all invested in the military industrial complex” and are failing to recognize how the conflict is affecting Americans through higher energy costs. “The uni-party is an abomination and outside of @timburchett and maybe a couple others, the GOP is an utter embarrassment,” she said, referring to Rep. Tim Burchett, the GOP representative from Tennessee.
Gas prices add to political pressure
Gasoline prices have risen sharply during the Iran conflict, with AAA reporting that the national average for regular gasoline was about $4 a gallon on Monday, August 10, compared with roughly $3.14 at the same point last year. The increase has added to political pressure on Trump as the war approaches the six-month mark, with the closure of the Strait of Hormuz contributing to disruption in energy markets.
Donald Trump ‘low-keying it’ on Iran
Trump said on Sunday, August 9, that he is “low-keying it” on Iran while his administration pursues an agreement to end the conflict. “We are only semi-negotiating with them. We are just watching Iran with its huge inflation and the fact they have no money,” the president told Axios. He added that Tehran’s economy “is in very bad shape” and that Iran can not compensate its forces. “It will work out. It always works out. It’s like a chess game,” Trump said.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr said Tehran is demanding an end to the U.S. naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, sanctions relief, war reparations, a U.S. military withdrawal from Iran and an end to attacks on Iranian allies. According to reports, Iran and Oman have participated in discussions concerning reopening the waterway.
