Fox News this week aired a rare on-air correction after it showed a graphic that falsely claimed the average price of gas in America was lower now than it was at the same point in 2025.
The erroneous graphic aired on “America Reports” and also on Fox Business Network on Monday.
It compared gas prices now, last week and a year ago.
It said they were currently at $4.06, but falsely said they were at $4.13 a year ago ― when they were actually about a dollar less.
The large year-on-year increase has been largely attributed to the knock-on effects from Donald Trump’s war on Iran, which he launched in February, and the subsequent stalemate over the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow channel through which vast quantities of the world’s oil is carried.
On-air corrections were made on “America Reports” and on Fox Business on Tuesday.
On “America Reports,” Fox Business’ Ed Lawrence said: “Yesterday, we aired a graphic that showed gas prices incorrectly last year were $4.13 a gallon. They were in fact $3.13 a gallon, that’s 90 cents more in the past year.”
“The Trump administration says those gas prices will fall quickly once the operations in Iran ends,” he added.
