Fourth Wing Series Greenlit by Amazon: What We Know

Amazon greenlit the Fourth Wing adaptation for Prime Video, with Michael B. Jordan and author Rebecca Yarros onboard as exec producers.
Amazon is turning up the heat for romantasy fans: the Fourth Wing series has been greenlit for Prime Video, with Michael B. Jordan stepping in as an executive producer and the show set to bring Rebecca Yarros’ wildly popular world to the screen.
The news landed during Amazon’s upfronts in May 2026. when Jordan announced that the best-selling book franchise will be adapted for Prime Video.. An Oscar winner. Jordan will also serve as an executive producer. helping shape how the story’s intensity and emotional stakes translate into a serialized format for streaming audiences.
Meanwhile, Amazon MGM Studios framed the project as one of its most anticipated adaptations.. In a statement released at the time. Peter Friedlander. Head of Global Television. said the series is driven by the same elements that have already fueled its global momentum: fans’ deep attachment to the characters and the emotional pressure built into the narrative.. He added that with showrunner Meredith Averill and partners including Kilter. Outlier. and Premeditated. the adaptation aims to honor what readers love.
At the heart of the hype is Violet Sorrengail, the protagonist of Fourth Wing.. The first book in Yarros’ Empyrean series follows Violet as she enters Basgiath War College with ambitions of becoming a dragon rider.. But her path is complicated from the start: she is the youngest daughter of General Lilith Sorrengail. yet she’s underestimated because of a health condition.
As Violet tries to find her footing at the university. she crosses paths with Xaden Riorson. the wingleader who initially seems to be her biggest obstacle.. Their relationship begins in conflict, but it gradually shifts into something else entirely, culminating in a connection that becomes romantic.. It’s a core engine of the series: rivalry, tension, and trust forming under intense pressure.
Fourth Wing itself is also expanding beyond its opening chapter on the page.. The franchise is built as Yarros’ Empyrean series. with three novels published so far: Fourth Wing. Iron Flame. and Onyx Storm.. Two additional novels are yet to be published. which matters for how the adaptation could eventually map the scope of the story beyond the first book.
Author Rebecca Yarros is not just a name attached to the project—she’s joining the creative team behind the scenes as an executive producer.. In May 2026. she expressed excitement about working with a dedicated. experienced team and emphasized her gratitude for the passion from both readers and the readership connected to the books.
Jordan’s involvement also comes with a clear sense of ambition for the adaptation.. He will executive produce alongside Yarros, Averill, and multiple production companies, including his own Outlier Society.. In remarks from May 2026. Jordan said the project required the right creative partner and described the effort as building a cinematic world with Lisa Joy. with the aim of delivering the series in a way the fandom deserves.
Even with a green light and a high-profile production team, one major piece of the adaptation puzzle remains: casting.. A cast for the Fourth Wing series has not been announced yet.. In February 2026. Jordan previously teased that casting plans were focused on finding a balance—bringing in a mix of familiar faces and new names—so that the process doesn’t distract from the story when it lands.
For fans watching the adaptation progress, the unanswered casting question is likely to be the next big moment.. With the series still taking shape. the creative choices—who brings Violet. Xaden. and the rest of the Basgiath world to life—will determine how closely the on-screen version captures the emotional stakes that have made Fourth Wing such a cultural force.. For now. Amazon’s decision puts the project firmly on the streaming track. with a team that clearly understands what readers have been responding to since the books first took off.

Fourth Wing better not get ruined. If they skip all the heart-stopping stuff I’m gonna be mad. Also please cast the vibes right.
Michael B Jordan of all people producing romantasy? Sure, why not. Hollywood will slap dragons and hot people in everything now and call it “content.”
I read the book and… Violet’s whole thing is that she’s underestimated and then just keeps pushing. If the showrunner gets that, it’ll actually work. If they make it too fluffy then yeah no.
Basgiath War College on Prime is gonna be such a mess lol. But I’ll watch. Amazon usually knows how to market the hell outta stuff before it’s even out.
