Four heartbreaking diagnoses threatened to break them
“I am a bit no frills, I have a certain job in the team at Melbourne, and it’s a pretty simple role. I’ve been playing under Craig for a fair few years now, and he obviously has a lot of faith in me,” Loiero said. “To be able to repay him, play good footy for him, it’s a bit of a confidence booster. We were all in a little bit of shock [about Bellamy’s diagnosis], and still don’t know what’s next or what’s going to
happen, but all we do know is we can put our best foot forward for him and try to make him proud. “It’s been good to see him with a smile on his face, he’s a great man and been a great role model for myself and a lot of people in the game. “I’m not sure what’s next for him, or next year or beyond that, all I know is we can put our best foot forward for him this year and make him
proud.” Start the day with a summary of the day’s most important and interesting stories, analysis and insights. Sign up for our Morning Edition newsletter.
Craig Bellamy, Melbourne Maroons, Loiero, diagnoses, football, teammate tribute, uncertainty, team resolve
Four diagnoses?? That’s brutal.
I didn’t realize it was like that. Sounds so scary for Craig Bellamy, like they don’t even know what’s next so how are you supposed to plan anything? Hope he’s okay.
So wait, they’re saying “four heartbreaking diagnoses” but then it’s kinda vague? Like is it the team doctor or just media panic? Also Melbourne Maroons… I’m probably mixing this up with another Craig but still, seems messed up.
Man, I saw the headline and immediately thought it was like injuries from games, but now it’s “uncertainty” and “what’s next.” Either way players just want to make him proud?? I can’t even imagine having to focus on footy when someone close to you is dealing with health stuff. Hope they’re getting real answers soon.
