Friday looks warmer and stickier than stormy. Conditions are expected to be warm and humid. with afternoon highs in the mid to upper 80s and feels-like temperatures close to 90. Isolated to spotty afternoon and evening thunderstorms are possible, but the flood risk for Friday is low. Even then. people are being asked to watch for ponding of water and potential street flooding in any heavier storms that form.
This weekend is where the risk is expected to tighten. Flooding concerns are likely to increase as an upper-level area of low pressure develops in north Texas, placing Houston in a favorable environment for heavier rain.
For Saturday and Sunday, Houston has been placed at a level 2 out of 4 risk for street flooding. Southeast Texas is also under a 1 out of 5 risk for a few strong storms on Saturday. The main risks in that strong-storm window are gusts near 60 miles per hour and hail near quarter size.
Memorial Day itself should bring rain, but with less coverage than the two previous days. Showers are expected, but the pattern is expected to be lighter than what came before.
The sequence of the forecast is clear: warm, stormy pockets on Friday with low flooding risk, then a shift into repeated rounds of heavier rain over the weekend as the storm setup strengthens — right up into the period covered by the Flood Watch until Monday evening.
