FKA twigs taps Lil Yachty for ‘On Your Mind’

FKA twigs has released a new single, ‘On Your Mind,’ teaming with Lil Yachty. She says the track was written after visa issues derailed her plans for Coachella and the EUSEXUA USA tour—an experience she frames as pain turning into “hardest and most euphoric so

FKA twigs’ next chapter starts with a thump in the chest and a question she doesn’t ask out loud: what do you do when a door you were sure was opening shuts in your face?

Her new single, ‘On Your Mind,’ features Lil Yachty, and it’s her first new solo material since last year’s Euxsexua Afterglow—the companion album to Eusexua. The song arrives with an embedded video, the kind of ready-to-play release that turns momentum into a statement.

But twigs’ own backstory makes it clear the track wasn’t just conceived in studio glow. She wrote that she worked on the song with Yachty “in the evening after a long dance rehearsal” when she found out her previous manager and production team “had not got me visa’s in time to go to coachella and complete my headline EUSEXUA USA tour.”.

She describes what followed as a late-night spiral inside the dance studio: “i stayed late in the dance studio manically practicing in the hopes that the news was not true. and in denial that somehow i would still make it across the sea to perform for my amazing and loyal fans if i just practiced a bit more.”.

Then the story pivots—because she doesn’t stop at the loss. She ties it to the sound itself. “it never ceases to amaze me how pain can manifest into the hardest and most euphoric sonics. i think making songs like this keeps me on my toes and reminds me that i am not in control.”

That line lands like a refusal to let events dictate the ending. In twigs’ telling. releasing ‘On Your Mind’ isn’t just about a collaboration or a new single—it’s about timing and survival through artistry. “i am giving this back story because after completing my first arena tour of the USA and EU it feels like the perfect time to release it in celebration of what as artists we can overcome when we believe in ourselves and others believe in us. ” she wrote.

She ends with gratitude aimed outward rather than inward. “i feel so full, thank you for coming to see BODY HIGH, thank you for continuing to grow with me. thank you for what we are building next. everything happens for a reason and my reason for making music and art will always be you.”

For listeners, ‘On Your Mind’ arrives as more than a new track with a buzzy feature—it’s a record of how a cancelled moment and a long practice session can be remixed into a kind of forward motion. Pain, denial, rehearsals, and then the beat.

  1. So she made a whole song because of visa issues like… just go another date? Doesn’t sound like a “thump in the chest” to me. Also Coachella is like the least surprising thing to not make.

  2. The headline EUSEXUA USA tour is confusing me lol is that even a real thing or just vibes. But I get it, like when plans fall through you spiral and then turn it into music. Still kinda feels like the manager’s fault though, so good for her for calling it out.

  3. Visa issues derailed her Coachella and EU tour and now she drops a video-ready single with Yachty… okay sure. I feel like labels always say “everything happens for a reason” but it usually means they didn’t plan right. Anyway the song’s probably fire, because whenever Lil Yachty is on a track it’s automatically catchy (most of the time).
