Utah firefighters have been battling a rapid surge of new blazes since Sunday morning—five fires reported across multiple counties over the last 24 hours, with officials pointing to dry conditions and a record-low snowpack that are leaving the state in a high-fire-danger stretch.
So far, the fires have burned around 57 acres of land.
Near the border of Rich and Morgan counties, the Wasatch Road fire was discovered at 10:50 a.m. on Sunday. By now, it has burned just .1 acres.
In Sanpete County, the Freedom Fire was discovered at 6:23 p.m. on Sunday and has burned 16.3 acres. Fire officials say this fire is human-caused and under investigation. They also say they have been able to stop the fire’s forward progress.
Farther south, in Piute County, the Caboose Village Fire has been burning since it was discovered at 2:10 p.m. on Sunday. Its footprint so far is also .1 acres.
In Iron County, the Christy Lane Fire has burned 40 acres and was sparked around 5:45 p.m. on Sunday. It prompted some evacuations in the Red Canyon subdivision. Those evacuations were lifted on Sunday night, and fire officials say they have the fire 97% contained. They believe the fire is human-caused and that it is under investigation.
Utah Fire Info shared a brief update on social media, saying, “Aviation and ground resources will continue suppression efforts and securing perimeter of fire today,” adding, “Mild temperatures are expected today with a chance of scattered afternoon showers.”
The fifth blaze is in Zion National Park, where the East End fire was discovered early Sunday just before noon. So far, it has burned .1 acres.
With new fires still popping up across the map, the message from officials is clear: Utah’s weather outlook and low snowpack are creating conditions where even small starts can quickly become serious—so each minute that crews spend containing these lines matters.
