Five injured, one airlifted after I-15 multi-vehicle hit-and-run crash near Jean

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A multi-vehicle hit-and-run crash early Friday morning on I-15 southbound has shut down the highway near Jean, leaving five people injured and spilling diesel fuel across the lanes after emergency vehicles were struck.

Nevada Highway Patrol responded to the initial three-car collision at 12:16 a.m. near southbound I-15 mile marker 7, just north of the California border.

While emergency crews were investigating and securing the scene, a secondary hit-and-run collision occurred at 12:36 a.m. An unidentified vehicle struck a Clark County Fire Department ambulance, a fire truck, and a Chevrolet Malibu that was parked at the scene.

The driver of the striking vehicle fled the scene on foot into the surrounding desert area immediately after the impact. Despite an intensive air and ground search utilizing drones and helicopters conducted by NHP, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, and the California Highway Patrol, the suspect has still not been located and remains at large.

Five people were injured in the secondary collision and transported to area hospitals. One patient was airlifted by Life Flight helicopter due to the severity of their injuries, while four others were taken by ground ambulances.

Officials confirmed that all Clark County Fire Department personnel on the scene were not injured in the collision.

Southbound I-15 has since reopened after closing for multiple hours due to cleanup crews working to clear a large diesel spill leaking from the damaged Clark County fire truck.

All southbound traffic was diverted off the highway at the Jean exit off-ramp (Exit 12). Motorists traveling between Las Vegas and Southern California were asked to avoid the area.
