A fight at Estella Restaurant near Downtown Crossing didn’t just grow—it multiplied.

Boston police officers were called to the restaurant at 49 Temple Place at about 5:44 p.m. to help MBTA Transit Police manage a disturbance, according to a statement from BPD. Transit police had requested help after “patrons became hostile toward officers.” When BPD officers arrived. transit police were “managing an active fight.”.

Police said they did not know what caused the altercation and that it originated inside the restaurant. What started as one disturbance became several. The initial incident led to the arrests of two people. As officers worked to clear the scene, multiple other fights broke out, and three additional people were arrested, BPD said.

A spokesperson for transit police did not return a request for information Tuesday.

The incident unfolded at a restaurant that had been drawing attention just months earlier. Estella hosted a watch party for the World Cup match between Cape Verde and Spain on Monday afternoon, the restaurant being open later into the day.

Earlier this year. Boston officials suspended Estella’s liquor license for one day after police broke up an after-hours party attended by Patriots players. Officers reportedly found the players partying with strippers, hookahs, and their own bottles of liquor. The Boston Licensing Board found violations involving indoor smoking, unauthorized adult entertainment, and after-hours liquor consumption.

On Monday, the downtown location again became the center of police attention—this time not because of an after-hours party, but because officers arriving to respond to hostility and a fight found the situation already spiraling.

  1. So they suspended the liquor license before and now this?? sounds like that place never learns.

  2. Wait a minute, I thought Patriots players were involved again like before. But it says World Cup watch party? Idk either way that restaurant should just shut down if fights keep happening.

  3. “Didn’t know what caused the altercation” like come on, it always starts somewhere. Probably the hookah or the strippers again? Not even sure why MBTA police were there in the first place.

  4. This is why I don’t go downtown crossing. One fight turns into like 5 and suddenly everyone’s arrested. Also the part about patrons being hostile toward officers… that’s always the fun part when people won’t listen, then it snowballs.
