COLUMBIA, S.C. — The holiday weekend doesn’t start quietly. This morning, motorists are being warned to watch for pockets of fog that can cut visibility to less than a mile, especially in areas that saw heavy rainfall yesterday.

After that first hit of low visibility. the bigger concern shifts to what’s still in the sky: scattered showers and thunderstorms will remain in the forecast through the rest of the holiday weekend. The chance of storms stays elevated. with additional storm chances expected to flare up both Sunday and Monday—particularly in the afternoon and evening.

An unsettled weather pattern is expected to stick around for most of the week, keeping the forecast restless rather than settled. Rainfall totals could exceed 1–2 inches through the next 7 days.

  1. They keep saying “pockets of fog” like that’s helpful. If visibility is under a mile, how is anyone supposed to drive??

  2. Is this the same storm system that hit yesterday? I heard heavy rain = the storms are done, but now they’re saying more thunder Sunday and Monday? Feels backwards honestly.

  3. 1–2 inches in 7 days doesn’t sound like a lot, but everyone’s acting like it’s the end of the world. Also why does Thursday suddenly go upper 80s like nothing happened? I’m in Columbia and it always gets weird around Memorial Day, so… yeah I’m confused.
