As she took the time to celebrate the moment, Fergie also made it personal. During the acceptance, she used several moments to thank her 12-year-old son Axl, who she shares with her ex-husband Josh Duhamel.
The Black Eyed Peas’ win came as the category itself underscored how old favorites keep finding new audiences. They beat two classic songs for the title—Goo Goo Dolls’ “Iris” and 4 Non Blondes’ “What’s Up.” Both Goo Goo Dolls and 4 Non Blondes were in attendance to represent their throwback songs. which have seen resurgences thanks to TikTok and social media.
The American Music Awards are airing live on CBS. Queen Latifah hosts the show, returning after more than 30 years since she previously hosted. The night’s nominations list is led by Taylor Swift with 8 nods.
For the Black Eyed Peas, the award was a quick stop back in time—until the reunion itself made it feel present again.
