Free fly tying and $5 raffle head Father’s Day

As May draws to a close, many are gearing up for summer fishing activities. Exciting plans are underway, including fishing charters, wildlife tours, and camping with kayaking adventures. In preparation for June, mark your calendars for a free Father’s Day fly-tying event on Sunday, June 21, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This event will take place at Willow Point Hall, 2165 Island Hwy South. Participants will have access to fly-tying materials and tools, and everyone is encouraged to join their dads for a creative
day behind the vice. Attendees can learn to craft their own fly patterns and enjoy some fishing afterward. This event invites participants of all ages to gain practical experience in the art of fly tying. If you own a fly-tying kit, you’re welcome to bring it along for extra enjoyment. A variety of materials—including fur, feathers, and more—will be provided, offering a wonderful opportunity to experiment with new patterns and techniques while testing your creations in nearby waters. Raffle tickets will be on hand for
$5, and donated prizes will include a four-hour fishing charter with Jason Storie on a 17-foot Boston Whaler and all gear is provided. There will also be a two-night cabin stay from Roberts Lake Resort and a golf putter package from Kayson Custom Clubs Campbell River. There is a $2 raffle with prizes that will include a Riptide pub gift card, breakfast for two from Whistlin Waffle, a gift card from Goose and Gander at the CR Lodge, and ice cream coupons donated by Discovery
Pier concessions. Campbell River Fly Shop donated fly material, and several fly fishing books will be drawn for. The Willow Point Lions Club will have the kitchen open for food and beverages. The Lions Hall is a great venue with lots of space to bring the family out and have some fun on Father’s Day on Sunday, June 21, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. A few fishing reports are coming in, indicating it is slow at the moment. Fishing with worms is working well, small
casted lures have been doing Okay, and those fishing from a canoe are doing very well with good catches of cutthroat trout being caught in trolled water. I will check out Beavertail and Roberts Lake in the weeks to come. This time of year, Toba Inlet is a fishing destination for the salmon anglers; it’s about a two-hour boat ride, but it’s the area to see what nature provides us in this part of the world. The tourist season will begin, and when you look
at fishing, call ahead to avoid disappointment. That also includes those who enjoy camping.

So it’s like fly fishing classes but with a raffle??
My dad would LOVE this. 11 to 3 sounds perfect. Also the fishing charter on that 17-foot Whaler is wild, $5 raffle tickets is a steal honestly.
Wait so the Lions Club is doing food and also selling tickets?? I thought fly tying was just for like… retired people lol. And $2 raffle? feels like two different raffles and I’m confused. Also “slow at the moment” like slow fishing right now? I’m still going to bring worms though.
I saw “Father’s Day” and thought it was at some boat dock or something. Willow Point Hall doesn’t sound near the water? But it says you can test flies in nearby waters… so do they like provide the fishing too or just the fly material? And cutthroat trout from a canoe?? Not sure how that’s supposed to work with trolling but whatever. I’m just glad there’s a golf putter package in the raffle because why not.
