Logan Airport is set to refresh its children’s play areas with $2.8 million in federal funding, part of a broader push to make air travel feel more welcoming for families.

The U.S.. Department of Transportation announced Monday that the Federal Aviation Administration is awarding $970 million to airports in 45 states for family-friendly projects through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act — Airport Terminal Program (ATP).. The Logan grant will fund upgrades to the airport’s four free Kidports by creating new play structures and themes. the FAA said.

Logan’s Kidports are located in Terminals A, B, and C. The play areas are described by Massport as “a fun-filled space for little travelers and give parents and caregivers a place to unwind before or after a flight.”

The funding arrives after Transportation Secretary Sean P.. Duffy asked airports in December to submit projects for consideration that would support family-friendly services.. That process resulted in 133 grants.. Duffy said the effort is aimed at improving travel for American families. adding. “We’re making airports inviting spaces for parents and children to relax and recharge prior to boarding.”

In addition to Logan, the FAA announcement included other examples of family-focused upgrades.. Mississippi’s Tupelo Regional Airport is receiving $2 million for a family-friendly security screening lane.. Dallas Ft.. Worth International Airport is receiving $8 million for five family-friendly restrooms.. Palm Beach International Airport is receiving $10 million for new restrooms. mother’s rooms. and a new sensory room for families. and it is set to be renamed the Donald J.. Trump International Airport on July 1.

The timeline for the awards is also a central feature of the announcement.. “The FAA is moving quickly to get these investments out the door and into airports nationwide. ” FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford said in a statement.. “These projects will help create a more welcoming and accessible travel experience for families while demonstrating our commitment to improving America’s airports at record speed.”

  1. 2.8 million for Kidports sounds like a lot when flights are already expensive. But I guess parents need somewhere to put the kids so they don’t start screaming in line.

  2. Wait, is this the same Logan Airport that’s gonna get renamed to Donald J. Trump Airport?? Or is that a different Logan, like in another state? Either way, sensory rooms and restrooms… ok

  3. I don’t really get it—this is FAA money but it’s for playgrounds? Like what does the FAA even do with play themes lol. Also they said 970 million to airports in 45 states, so is Logan only getting 2.8 of that or did they mess up the numbers in the article? Either way, my tax dollars are paying for little kid stuff while delays still happen.
