EXCLUSIVE: Michelle Le of ‘Married at First Sight’ Tearfully Reveals She Had a Hysterectomy
Michelle Le of “Married At First Sight” Season 20 has revealed that she recently underwent a hysterectomy.
In TODAY.com’s exclusive first look at the upcoming reunion airing on Peacock on Aug. 27, the 34-year-old shared that she had the procedure to remove her uterus earlier this year after nearly a decade of health issues.
“I had fibroids, so fertility was definitely something that I was really worried about,” Le told relationship experts Paul Brunson and Dr. Lisa Paz at the Season 20 reunion.
“Over the past eight years … I was really trying to focus on preserving my fertility, which I feel like as a woman is just something that is so innate. My case was just so bad, and so in May I ended up getting a hysterectomy,” Le explained.
Le, a program manager from Seattle, Washington, was matched on the show with 37-year-old Cameron Mitchell, a college basketball coach in Portland, Oregon.
The reality series features singles who meet their future spouse at the altar, and follows the couples as they navigate newlywed life.
During the early episodes of the show, Le spoke candidly with Mitchell about her health struggles and fertility concerns.
Le was first diagnosed with fibroids at age 26. Since then, she’s had multiple surgeries and gone through several rounds of egg freezing.
Fibroids, which are non-cancerous fibrous growths in and around the uterus, can cause severe pain, heavy menstrual bleeding, bloating, and sometimes pregnancy complications, per the Cleveland Clinic.
In a video posted to Instagram on July 26, Le shared that doctors found “over 60 fibroids” in her uterus at one point. Every time she had the growths removed, they would grow back, causing extreme abdominal bloating and discomfort.
Reflecting on her hysterectomy at the reunion, Le said, “I’m at peace with it. I feel a lot better.”
“It’s made me realize that there are a lot of women out there who go through women’s health issues, whether it be fibroids or endometriosis, and a lot of women have to go through IVF.”
The first week after meeting Michell on the show, Le discussed her desire to start a family and her openness to adoption if she couldn’t have a biological child.
At the reunion, Le looked back at these moments: “Early on, it was really important for me to have that conversation with Cameron, and just to see how he handled it, and how he is so open to alternatives like adoption and also surrogacy. That just meant the world to me.”
Le shared that she will be “looking into surrogacy” in the future.
The final fate of each couple won’t be revealed until the reunion airs on Thursday, but Le and Mitchell appear to be going strong so far.
