Ex-Senator Admitted to Steamy Affair With Married Bodyguard While in Office — Including Romp at CNN Anchor’s Wedding

Former Senator Kyrsten Sinema admitted to a having sex multiple times with her married bodyguard while she represented Arizona in Congress, including copping to a romp while the two attended CNN anchor Jessica Dean’s wedding.
Sinema disclosed the affair with Matthew Ammel in a July 31 deposition, as part of a lawsuit Ammel’s ex-wife Heather brought against the ex-lawmaker for allegedly wrecking her 14-year marriage.
They first hooked up around Memorial Day 2024, the former Democrat-turned-Independent senator admitted.
“We were staying at an Airbnb in Napa, California. We were outside. Matt kissed me. We went inside and had sex,” Sinema said.
And they hooked up several more times afterwards. That included getting “intimate” in Sinema’s hotel room in New York City in Mid-June, when Sinema attended Dean’s wedding.
Sinema was unmarried at the time and still is. She said she knew Ammel was married and had kids around December 2023, or about a half-year before the first time they had sex.
Heather Ammel is suing Sinema in North Carolina for violating the state’s alienation-of-affection law; the 50-year-old former lawmaker’s legal team has argued the law does not apply because the affair happened outside the state.
Sinema admitted to a few more hook-ups, including one at her Washington, D.C. apartment and one at an August 2024 fundraising trip in Aspen, Colorado.
The deposition also included texts between the two lovers.
“Putting my hand on your heart. I’ll see you soon. I miss you,” Sinema wrote to Ammel at one point.
“You understand, Ms. Sinema, don’t you, that a wife reading this might get concerned about who is sending her husband that kind of message referring to putting his — her hand on his heart? Can you see that?” the attorney for Ammel’s wife asked, Fox News reported.
“Yes,” Sinema said.
Sinema opted to not run for reelection the same year her affair started. She exited Congress at the start of 2025.
