Euphoria Won’t Return for Season 4, Sam Levinson Confirms

Euphoria won’t – “Euphoria” is officially ending after Season 3. Creator Sam Levinson says the HBO series won’t return for a Season 4 after Rue Bennett’s death in the Season 3 finale, with the cast left to carry forward no further season of the original story.
The last thing viewers saw on Sunday wasn’t just a finale—it was Rue Bennett’s end.
HBO’s “Euphoria” has officially finished with its third season. which wrapped its run Sunday with the death of its main character. played by Zendaya’s Rue Bennett. In the now-final episode. Rue overdosed on painkillers laced with fentanyl. a turn that landed with cruel finality and then widened into a drug-induced haze. The sequence featured old footage of Rue with her sister and her friends. as well as Fezco. played by the late Angus Cloud.
Creator Sam Levinson confirmed the show’s ending in an interview with Popcast Sunday. “It just felt like the honest ending,” Levinson said in a post-episode look inside the Season 3 finale that played after the episode. “The honest ending is people like Rue don’t make it.”
Levinson’s line—delivered right after the episode—underscored what many viewers had already been bracing for. Rue’s death was the final arrival of a story that had been drawing toward closure. Zendaya had previously said in interviews that she believed Season 3 to be the end of the series. Even so, speculation had flared after HBO referenced Sunday’s release as a season rather than a series finale.
The finale also narrowed the field of characters who could have carried on the original arc. The penultimate episode killed off Jacob Elordi’s Nate Jacobs. leaving only Sydney Sweeney’s Cassie. Hunter Schafer’s Jules. Alexa Demie’s Maddy. and Maude Apatow’s Lexi as remaining characters from the series’ core group.

Rue’s death also shifted the spotlight sharply toward Colman Domingo’s Ali. As the troubled woman’s sponsor took matters into his own hands. he killed druglord Alamo Brown. played by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. after discovering he was supplying the laced drugs to Rue. Then Ali traveled to the remote home of the family in Texas that Rue had said marked the last place she had known peace—returning there to honor her memory.
“I knew that I wanted to experience Rue’s death through [Ali],” Levinson said. “There’s a sort of helplessness. Letting Colman articulate that for us as an audience is really important.”
With that, the road beyond Season 3 is closed. “Euphoria” Seasons 1-3 are now streaming on HBO Max—now presented as the complete run of the story as Levinson and HBO have officially defined it.

Good. Season 3 already felt like a wrap, not sure why people were begging for more.
Wait so Rue dies and then that’s it?? I thought she was gonna come back in Season 4 like those promos always do. Also fentanyl-laced painkillers is so dark, like why would they end it there?
Is this the one where HBO said it was a season finale not a series finale and then everybody got confused? I saw someone say they were making a spinoff with Fez but now it’s just over?? Feels like they changed their mind because ratings or something.
I don’t buy it, like shows don’t just stop after killing the main character. Sam Levinson probably just wanted to move on and cash out. Plus, didn’t Nate die too? So now what, Ali just goes full revenge plot and that’s the “honest ending”? I’m gonna be mad if they don’t bring it back for closure on Cassie and Jules or whatever.
