England World – FIFA has confirmed England’s 2026 World Cup squad numbers, and the distribution of shirts—especially among key attackers and defenders—points to the XI Thomas Tuchel could start with. Jordan Pickford is No 1, Jude Bellingham No 10 and Harry Kane No 9, while Re

By the time the squad list reached the public, the numbers had already begun to speak.

England’s 2026 World Cup squad numbers have been confirmed ahead of the tournament getting underway in the USA, with the Three Lions drawn in a group alongside Croatia, Ghana and Panama and carrying the weight of ending 60 years of hurt.

FIFA has published the official squad numbers, even though the FA are yet to announce them. For manager Thomas Tuchel. the shirts create a clear talking point: Jordan Pickford has been handed the No 1 shirt. an unsurprising start for the Everton goalkeeper who is set to play at his fifth major tournament for England.

The back line is where the first strong signals show up. Ezri Konsa has been assigned No 2 and Nico O’Reilly has been given No 3, both selections that suggest they could be in Tuchel’s thoughts for the first-choice full-back roles.

There is also a notable detail around Reece James. After expectations that he could start at right back, the defender has instead been given the No 24 shirt. James, it’s worth remembering, also wears No 24 at Chelsea.

The midfield and attack contain their own clues. Declan Rice is No 4 and Elliot Anderson is No 8, with both positions pointing toward central roles in Tuchel’s plans. Harry Kane wears No 9. while Jude Bellingham has been handed No 10—placed ahead of Morgan Rogers and Eberechi Eze. who take No 17 and No 21 respectively.

Jude Bellingham is vying with Morgan Rogers and Eberechi Eze for attacking midfield minutes, but the numbers place Bellingham at the centre of the tournament picture. Marcus Rashford is No 11.

Defensive selection hints have also emerged in the way the shirts have landed. Marc Guehi, an England regular over the past few years, is given No 6. John Stones is No 5, despite having barely played over the past two seasons due to injury. The No 5 assignment suggests Tuchel could start him at centre back.

Rashford’s position battle is another thread the numbers tug at. He is battling it out with Anthony Gordon for the left wing spot, but Rashford’s No 11, with Gordon taking No 18, implies the Man United loanee could be ahead in Tuchel’s thinking.

  1. So they’re basically predicting the starting lineup based on jersey numbers? Lol number 24 means right back in my head.

  2. I don’t even get why FIFA published numbers before the FA. Like who cares, just play the games. Also No 10 Bellingham sounds right, he’s always a main character anyway.

  3. Wait Reece James got No 24? I saw somewhere he was gonna start at right back for sure, so either this is fake news or Tuchel hates him. And why is Kane not wearing No 7 like normal, is this a trick??

  4. England better win because the article said it’s 60 years of hurt which is wild. But jersey numbers don’t mean anything to me, players get injured and then whatever. Pickford No 1 though, that part I believe. Ghana and Panama better watch out, I guess?
